If I buy from a Vendor listed on the homepage of NLG what should I expect?

Hello all,


I'm not to the point of naming names but my concern is growing.  I purchased a hard to find machine from one of the sites vendors and paid what I believe to be a premium price, lets just say with shipping it was over 2K.  I asked about the condition and was told I would be very happy with the condition of the machine.  I asked about the condition of the reel strips and asked if they were very faded (again, you will be very pleased with the machine), I asked about the artwork in the top of the machine to make sure it was not all cracked etc... (You guessed it, you will be very pleased with the machine).  I waited the two weeks I was told it would take but machine still had not shipped, was told it went to the wrong warehouse.  So I waited another week or so and my new machine arrived, it was extra tall so the crate was a big one, got it uncrated (excellent crating job I might add) and moved into my home.  First thing I notice is the reel strips are very faded.  Second when I applied power to the machine I noticed the graphics at the top had cracks in it (remember I was told I'd be very pleased).  I WAS NOT PLEASED.  The topper had a couple of the chase lights out on it and the majority of the screws missing, the handle actually had what appears to be rust on it.  The inside of the bottom of the machine was very clean   The button lights were just bulbs no nice LEDs so they were very yellowish.  The sticker to say play 3 credits was so faded almost all the color from it was gone.  I had expressed to the seller that I would like to make it multi denomination when I got the machine it is not setup with a bottom deck to allow that and the multi denom wiring is not even present.


So I ask... If you were me and purchasing a machine at a premium price and expressing some concerns before the purchase and being told that those would not be a issue how should I view this whole transaction?  I was also told that a NEW set of reel strips had been ordered from IGT but its now about two months down the road and I still have not seen those.  Due to the promises I was made about the condition of this machine I passed up one machine that was considerably cheaper since I had already committed to this vendor and I passéd on a very nice machine for about the same price that appeared to have very nice strips, was multi denom etc... (I try to be a man of my word and not back out on my commitments).

Generally anybody listed on the homepage has been proven to be an honest dealer, that's why they reside there. Your issues sound reasonable in relationship to the questions you asked up front and in my opinion the seller needs to do some customer satisfaction work either in the form of replacement parts or maybe an agreed upon partial refund of sorts. Can you post some pictures of the issues you have with the machine. I've got a Triple Double Diamond w/ Cheese I'm looking to sell and it's in very good condition other than a couple small cracks in the artwork of the top glass, but it is well priced in consideration of that. As a side note, I believe you can clear coat the artwork to mitigate further cracking

If it was a complete misrepresentation and the seller isn't going to make it right with $ or replacement parts, the community really should know who it is.  I get heckled a lot out here for being OCD with "minty" expectations, and that's why I ask for detailed photos.  That way, I'm able to make a decision whether the machine, accessories, etc., are worth the $.  Over communication can be a good thing.

If I were reselling these things to game rooms etc... I probably would not worry as much about this stuff but when you buy them to keep in your home and use as entertainment you want them to look their best, at least I do.  Jason, some of your kits are so nice it just makes me drool.  I like for things to be bright and fun, this game is pretty faded and old looking, fun to play but would be so much more fun if it were a bit fresher.

I swapped a couple handles from silver to gold, if I didn't throw them away I'll send you one

From y'alls comments it appears that I did not have my expectations set to high which was one of my concerns.  I did stop in his store while I was on vacation and he game me a red play 3 credits sticker so I can fix that, the redeem ticket sticker he has was used and looks pretty close to the one that is in the machine.  I guess this is one of them there "Life Lessons" people talk about.  The reel strips and the cracked artwork were probably the most disappointing.

Be careful Cowboygames, you will create a new category, first we have "Minty", the one I think we are all looking for and now "Rustic", "Primative", "Gently Used", "Only played by a little old lady on Sundays".  I may actually have another handle out in my garage, never taken one off so not sure how hard that is.  Do you have to take out the whole part from the cabinet or will it just unscrew and the new one screw in?

I would have a real problem letting that go out the door for what you paid!.  Fadded out reel strips,rusted handle/arm etc.  Now I could see this if it were quite a bit less $.  At least the handle is easy enough to change but that sticks out like a sore-thumb!.

This is why I send a video of the machine working running cleaned before they leave our place.... next time ask for pictures atleast.... on a side note... the handle is inexcusable.




But please please remember.... homeowners just don't realize what machines go through and what they're like in casino storage areas. Its the hardest part about retail.... selling something to someone to put into their home thats 7-15 years old and they expect it to be new. Remember how expensive these games are brand new... Just my little rant on this. Next time get photos if possible.


I have people on a waiting list for that machine so be lucky you got one haha

Ok, so I'm not crazy or was expecting to much for my money.  I may never get satisfaction but the fact I'm not being unrealistic in my expectations at least makes me feel a bit better.  I'll go look at my machine in the garage and may do a quick handle change.  Thanks again all, I'm getting a much better idea on where to make future purchases.  As I said for now I'm not naming names but if after all this they don't try to make some means of reasonable restitution then I'll post the name.

I think cowboy (Rob) has a pretty good one if there is a waiting list and the price looked good also.  -I checked his post and it had not changed so that is why I think it may be available.

I see what you guys mean about the handle, my old parts machine in the garage had a much better looking handle on it.  Never having done it before it took me about 15 min to remove both handles and swap them out.  At least now its a little less "Rust"ic

I'm considering purchasing a machine and would appreciate knowing which vendor did this, just for future reference. Please post the vendor name or send a private message to me. Hopefully they will make this right for you or at least attempt to do something to your satisfaction. Since you explicitly asked several questions about appearance and condition I'm surprised they didn't send photos to you just to make sure you knew what you'd be getting, to avoid a problem. Seems like something a concerned vendor would do to head off any potential problem when selling a used machine. I hope they weren't trying to hide the real condition from you by not sending photos since nowadays with digital cameras it is so easy to send photos.

I'd be unhappy if I paid a premium price, had asked the specific questions you said you asked, and then ended up with that machine.  Hopefully the vendor will come through and make it right.

Bottom line is,  It really does not matter who has the game or game(s).  Ask questions if needed and always get PLENTY of pics of the exact item -if possible.  I understand some folks are not willing to do this or it may be a e-b88 deal.  I also understand that dealing with vendors with warranties etc. Should be taken into consideration esp. the $ that was spent on this game.  I have no idea who the vendor is,  Nor do I want to know.  I would think that if they are listested on top page as vendor-as stated -All would be ok--I would think.   No one is perfect, But a mis-reprensation of goods is another.

Well the saga continues... I inquired as to the status of the new reel strips that were "ordered" for my machine and I'm now being told they are getting a huge run around and they are looking elsewhere for a new set of strips.  I know I'm not in the business but I thought new strips pretty much came from IGT.  Anyway, if anyone out there knows where I can get some new strips for my money pit (Triple Double Diamond Deluxe with Cheese) please let me know.  If I end up with two sets then that will just be a bonus but as of now I don't hold much hope of the vendor coming thru on this for me.  Let me know if anyone has a lead on where i might be able to order a set...
