IGT S+ Red, White, and Blue won't accept bills other than $1

Good afternoon forum,

The bill validator on my machine seems to only accept $1 bills. I've tried multiple $5, $10, and $20 bills, to no avail. To be fair, I haven't tried $50 or $100 yet. It would be really nice to be able to load credits quickly using the bill validator rather than coins, but if all it will accept is $1s, this is pretty much pointless. Is this possibly because bills have changed a lot since this machine was made in the 90s? Will I require a newer bill validator to accept newer bills, or can my old one be programmed to accept newer bills? Or is it something else entirely? Please advise.

Yes you probably can only use older bills without a software or hardware upgrade.  Try to find an older but crisp $20, $50 or $100 bill.

This may be a dumb question but what's the best way, typically, to find older bills in circulation? Luck of the draw?

You can ask at your local bank and sometimes they can help you. Or try a liquor store.

Also the manager service/return area at a grocery store, local bar/grill, restaurant at checkout, etc.

Depending on how comfortable you are, you can remove your validator, and clean all of the sensors inside. I just did that and mine will take everything except for the new $100s. Or you can look on Amazon or Ebay for Calibration Paper Bill Validator cleaner.

Bill validator cleaning cards and calibration paper are two entirely different things.


Only use water to clean the sensors- NO alcohol.

Yup! I have an old 100 that its sole purpose is for running it through my machines with older validators.

Also verify the protocol ID on the validator.
Regardless if the validator is set to 21/22 it will accept a $1.

what type of bill unit do you have on your machine?, need some information so we can recommend an upgrade or test the one you have to determine what software you have.

That was not the sticker the guys were referring to.
Remove the validator and look for stickers etc on the bottom.

Ideally they are trying to find out if its a DBV 145,200, WBA11/12/13 and what software rev is on the unit.
The tech sticker that says 3.x is a good indication but its relevance is only good if you know the model of unit.

Once you have the head off there is a series of dipswitches on the bottom please let us know what positions each of them are in.

I have attached a manual for the DBV200 which is what I think you have based on the picture, but I can't be absolutely sure.

from the picture I can see that your unit is a 145 head, your options are to upgrade to a 200 head or wba system.

200 head is a direct replacement for the 145, PROVIDED that you have the later version of the black power supply, has vents in the outer housing, and that the transport works!

wba system involves, removal of the bracket that the cash can currently rests on, replacement of the shelf assembly, transport and head and bezel assembly, cash can, additional of a different power supply and two pin connector. 

more than likely you could need a clear chip and a set chip .

I have all of these parts available.
