IGT G20 issues
« on: September 23, 2019, 02:29:57 PM »
Hello
I’m having issues with 2 of my g20 cabinets and I don’t know what else to troubleshoot.

1st cabinet
Game crashed and wouldn’t load. Acted like the logic was losing power. So far I have changed the cabinet power, 440 power supply, atx power supply,
Logic, PCIE card and batteries, backplane, suitcase board. I can get the game to load now but the top monitor has power but no video. I swapped dvi cables to troubleshoot, no change. I moved the vga cable for bottom monitor to the top monitor and I got the image so I know top monitor is still good. this was an issue before I swapped logics so I don’t believe it would be a logic issue now and there isn’t a video card it just has onboard graphics. The game will stay up for an undetermined amount of time and then crash again. After some more troubleshooting it is now rebooting itself every 5-10 minutes

2nd cabinet
On boot it shows AVP screen on both monitors then bottom monitor loses image and game freezes. After a couple minutes it reboots and repeats the cycle.
So far I have swapped cabinet power, 440 power and atx power. Swapped logic, suitcase board. I spoke with an IGT tech and he said the rebooting game was probably a video card but again there is no video card and I have changed logics and it’s still the same issue.

Rebooting is sometimes a heat related issue.  Grease on the main cpu dries up and hardens and cpu overheats.  Just a thought here

When you switch the logic boards, are you moving over the memory and ssd (or hard drive)?  You could have a bad memory simm issue.

On the machine with the top monitor, have you tried manually switching the input to DVI instead of auto, if the monitor works with the vga cable attached, it might just not be auto switching to dvi?

On the game where I am not getting top monitor before it crashes I swapped out the dvi cable for a vga to dvi cable and I was able to get an image so I believe the dvi port on the monitor might be bad. But then when the game was running through the load process and both screens were on the blue AVP load screen it would lose bottom video before kicking the image up top. I continued troubleshooting and swapped out the vga cable on the bottom monitor for another one and now have both images but it will still only run for 10-15 minutes before crashing again. Like the logic isn’t getting power but I have swapped every power supply in the cabinet by now.  And yes I have moved memory and hard drives over to new motherboard. As for the one rebooting I will try and get to the cpu and check out the heat sink paste.

You might have a bad memory issue.  I would try swapping the memory simm for a known working one to see if it fixes the issue.  Bad memory can cause the issues you are describing, where things run at the start and then it just goes down hill.
