For home use it's not needed so just unplug it.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think one has anything to do with the other.

Plug the diverter back in and see if the light  comes on.   :Scratch-Head: :Scratch-Head:

Make sure your door was closed all of the way.

Are you sure it's not your CC unit that is buzzing?

A old capacitor inside the comparator will cause the rake to chatter.

Replacing the 220 uF 35V cap inside fixes that.

If he disabled the diverter and the noise went away, why are we talking about the comparator ??

The diverter is below the CC unit not behind it.

I should have taken a picture of it, but when I removed the CC unit there was a solenoid behind the CC unit.  Once the max number of quarters were inserted it would deactivate and engage the bypass on the CC causing extra coins to pass back into the tray.  It also controlled the insert coin light.

This CC unit. Is it a CC16 or 62 or mechanical?

Ok so it is your Coin Lockout Coil and not your diverter coil.

Unplugging it will cause you not to receive coins.

To cut down on the buzzing we used to stick a piece of electrical tape onto the coil (under the "flapper" arm).

Or remove the flapper assembly all together negating it's small pin that prevents coin in when not energized.

But you have to insert no more than the maximum coin in or get a coin in tilt, which can be cleared by opening and closing the door.
