PC Slot Game files
« on: March 31, 2015, 10:04:37 PM »
I have an old PC disc of slot games. I wanted to grab an image that is used in one of the slots. I checked the disc's files, all which are .sui and .msa files.
Any idea how to view these files? I'm assuming .sui files are the graphics and the .msa files are audio?

Anyone who can help me out, thanks in advance.

I believe the .sui files are font files, often used on Apple products. On a PC the game software would load in the fonts and convert it to something the PC would display so it looked like the original Apple or Atari font. This disk you have may contain slot games that were converted to PC format from an original Atari or Apple game software. Back then Atari was a leader in graphical games, often a company would license a translation of their games for use on a different type of computer.

The .msa file name is used for two different things, hopefully yours is #2-

The .msa files are audio, they were developed as a proprietary music format for storing copyrighted songs on Memory Stick devices (msa=memory stick audio). The info I read said there is no way to open the files directly with any available software and no way to convert them to anything else. These audio files are used when you purchase music online and download them with proprietary music players like Sonicstage and Netjuke. My guess is the music file is encrypted and only authorized software knows how to decrypt it. It's all a controlled way of dealing with audio (music) so they can limit pirating.

Years ago there were .msa files used by Atari on their home computers for their disk imaging files. You can find converters for these type of files on the internet, just do a search for .msa converters.

http://www.atari-shrine.co.uk/help/converting_disks.html

http://msaconverter.free.fr/index-uk.html

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/MSA-Converter.shtml

Of course, there are often hacks and ways around these types of problems that can be found, especially coming out of Asia, so you can try looking around the internet to see if there is something out there.

Thanks for your response. Yes, it's an older gaming PC CD from Masque gaming. They had released double CD disks for WMS games. They have a great selection of games: Off The Charts, Roll Credits, Big Tippers, Who Dunnit, Top Banana, etc....
When I put the disk in my laptop and open the folder for it, everything is .sui and .msa files. Unless Windows Explorer is not opening up all of the files, I'm not sure. But I was hoping one of these files were the symbol graphics of the games. I wanted to grab a couple of the symbol graphics from the game. I know I can just open the games and do a screen cap. I'd rather try getting the actual file off of the disk.
Hope that helps some.

They are proprietary file formats, unless you know their layout, it would be next to impossible to extract the graphics assets.

Oh well. Guess I have to stick to screen shots! Thanks Rick.

Can you send one of the .msa files to me, I'd like to play around with it and see if it's possible to do anything with it, I used to do some stuff on the old Atari computers. My email address is posted in my profile (see panel on the leftl) or you can send it to me at  rokgpsman@gmail.com
Thanks!

Ah, thanks for the heads up. Cleared my inbox.
I'll e-mail you in a bit with some of the files to see what you can do. Thanks again. Will be interesting to see what you can find  :applause:
