Bally 1088E requires a couple of resets on power up
« on: August 01, 2016, 04:27:34 PM »
Hi,

I recently resurrected a 1088E that has previously worked, which we have had in the family since about '94.  I had a reel reader problem and sent it off for repair after isolating the particular reader.  Once in operation, it is fine and works great.

It sits atop a decorative case with a power switch on the back that powers the slot machine and a light in the case.

When I turn the case switch on, the machine powers up and presents a door open code 50, and sometimes thinks a coin was inserted (coin inserted light on, allows a pull and spin).      I have to open it, do a reset, then drop a quarter, spin, which results in a tilt and another reset.  After that it works fine.  If I turn it off for under 2 minutes, I can turn it back on from the case power switch and it resumes play fine.  So it's only a problem if it was off for more than 2++ minutes, which is every day.  When I'm done after a round of playing, I turn it off from the same power switch, without opening the door.

There was folded match pack cover that may have been holding something in position, that I guess I removed when doing other troubleshooting of the reel problem.  I should have taken more than 2 pictures when I first got it in my basement.  I think it was somewhere on the door but can't remember.

thanks for any suggestions
Mike

May have a bad connection on the power supply board. Check the Molex connector on the PS for hot spots. You may need a new PS and Molex connector due to age.
