Bally e 1000 Tests good but
« on: June 17, 2016, 06:35:13 PM »
I have read these for days but this is first time asking, thank you.  [/size]I have a Bally E-1000 .25 slot and all tests check out, all relays work, lights come on including the reel reader lights.  The only lights that don't work are Insert Coin and Coin Accepted.  It rejects all coins.  Flipping the wire does not activate it.  I am lost because all tests are good yet does not work.  Help please.

The lights may be burned out but the first question I would ask if it the relay just below the coin acceptor is pulled in.
Being pulled in all inserted coins would be returned to the coin tray.

If you run test #2, hold the wire (that you have flipped) down, release it momentarily and you can step
through the tests, each time the wire is down, it will pause on that test. Once you get to 2.1.2.0.2 the coin
deflector should close and then reopen when the display shows 2.1.2.0.3. If there is no movement then
the probable cause would be Q17 on the IO board

The two lamps that do not light are controlled by two different Triac's on the IO board Q9 and Q10

Thank you for the quick response and for telling me where to go.
Lights are not burned out.
Relay below coin acceptor pulls in on test #2 but stays out otherwise.
Will do test #2 with pushing on the wire as soon as possible.

I just finished test #2 with the wire and at 2.1.2.0.2 the coin deflector did close and open at 2.0.2.0.3.  Other thoughts?
I will look into Q9 and Q10 next.  Thank you for giving me hope.

I miss typed the second code it was 2.1.2.0.3.  With that checking out I have to ask about Q9 and Q10.  If they are bad would that in itself keep it from taking and registering the coins?

No, Q9 and Q10 just turn on the lights which is why I was thinking that the coin deflector may not be working
but there is also Q18 which is the coin lockout, this would show up as test 2.1.2.0.1

Something changed or I messed up but here is what I have.  Test #2 using the wire to see each number.  I also do not know if the blank makes it different.  Example instead of 2.1.2.0.1 I have 2. .1.2.0.1.  This is what is has.  It goes from
2. .1.2.0.1 to 2. .1.2.0.2 then to 2. .1.2.0.4.  It skips 2. .1.2.0.3.  Thank you.

There is no 203 and depending on your machine the best you will see in the 2xx range is

201 (Q18),202 (Q17) ,204 (Q16) ,208 (Q15) , 210 (Q14) and 220 (Q13)

I don't own a machine, so even I messed up, as it should be .2. .1.201 etc..etc..

I also have a Bally E 1000 $1.00 slot that does almost the same thing.  All the same boards and everything.  I think it is tie to trash them.  I don't have the time it takes to do this.  I really wanted one to work but just not worth it I think.  I thank you for what you done and want to say this is an excellent site with great people .

I never was at giving up even though sometimes I want to.  I think I remember reading a week or so ago on a different post that you check and rebuild boards for these games.  If I am right can you tell me how that works.  It seems that all is pretty good in the quarter slot and I hate to give up on it.  Hoping it's a board problem.  Gotta start somewhere.

Gotta keep trying.  I had another I/O board, same everything, and changed them out.  Now it will do the tests but only the numbers show up in the window.  The machine doesn't do anything except the coin relay that didn't work with the original is now the only thing that does work.  I'll switch them back in the morning just thought I would report the new findings.  Thanks.

OK, I'll keep talking to myself.  Hopefully someone will have pity on me and jump in.  That long list of codes that I listed earlier had a relay, light or something happen with each code which tells me everything checked out so why doesn't it work?  I switched the I/O boards back and everything is the same as before except now I have a 31 code on the hopper that indicates a hopper jam.  I'll stay on it.  Thanks.

Did you reseat the Daughter board on the MPU? They do oxidize and are very troublesome. Did you reseat all your chips on the MPU? Did you check the molex connector on the power supply for burnt connection? Did you reflow the solder joints on the power supply or just try a different power supply?

Thank you.  I have done all of the above except the power supply.  All lights and relays work during tests so thought power supply was good.  Will get right on it.  I do have an extra of all boards and most other things so can move things around.  I'll get back to you on the power supply.  Thanks.

Both of the power supplies check out.  I even changed them out to see what would happen.  There was no change.  All tests worked, all was good.  I changed out the I changed out the Mother boards and instead of my regular bbbbb0 in the win meter I got I.U.b.b.U.3.  flashed to B.U.b.b.U 3.  Small b's being blank.

I had a problem with an insert coin light for 2 years.  It would light up fine during test, but would not work in game mode.  I couldn't figure it out, tried every logical solution, and finally just gave up.  Then one day, I bought a new (modern component) power supply on Ebay for $60.  Installed and the problem disappeared for some reason.  Made a believer out of me!

This sure has me whipped.  I'll look into that.  I have swapped out the power supply for one like it and no change.  I swapped out the hopper and it is back to working.  Thanks for the tip.  Everything on it test good that's why it seems so simple but....

Sounds like you have a hopper board issue.. The 1000 series uses a different hopper board the a 2000 series machines.. Either that or you just have a bad hopper board.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

The hopper boards are different but not that different. All you have to do is jumper pins 8 and 9 together and you can
use either board in either machine.
