Help! Diagnostic files error
« on: June 18, 2020, 10:37:41 PM »

I am getting an error "Mass storage authentication Failed. System will retry in 10 seconds"

I tried formatting as Fat as well as Fat32 but I keep getting the error message when booting.

I also tried leaving the directories under the AVP directory as well as moving the directories to the ROOT and not under the AVP directory.

This sounds like you tried to make a copy of the Diagnostic drive using files from an original drive, which does not work.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

Most likely what happened here. You will need to get that drive fixed now by removing hidden files, or have it redone, or get a new one.

Exactly, they are hidden. It can be rather tedious. do a google search to remove hidden files from a usb drive.

You're chasing your tail.  Windows has corrupted your Certificate File.

What you're trying to do is not discussed on this forum.   (Idesign said that evil word, not me - LOL)   :fryingpan:     But that's why it doesn't work.

Hope this helps.   :cool_thumb_up:

Actually I found out that my USB was missing the certificate file but now I have it and put it in the root of the USB along with the AVP directory and subfolders but still getting that error.

The person who gave it to me says theirs works and also another person they gave it to also works exactly how they sent it to me.

I always have Windows set to show hidden files and folders.  There are none on the usb.

They won't show up that way. It has to be done through dos.

The folder is called "System Volume Information" it is there, it should show up in the windows shell as well.  If you ever insert a USB drive on a windows 7 or higher machine, it will always put this directory on the drive.

Thank you! I was able to find and delete it.  Now I have to wait for my CPU to get back.  Something happened to it where it won't boot anymore and i'm getting no boot loader errors so I had to send it back to the vendor to get it reimaged. Then, I can see if my diagnostic works.

Another thing I have seen is even after you just delete it in windows explorer  it immediately puts it back on. That is why I say find the file is dos and delte it there. Works everytime. But you probably are good to go now.

This can be solved if you turn off Indexing on that drive in windows.
Fixed my flashdrive doing this (windows 10)
