Does size matter...on a battery that is? 1/2 AA , 3/4 AA

I have a CEI Video Poker MPU board I just got on ebay. The battery shows about a half volt and it's a "2/3AA" 3.6v lithium.
Is the size simply for fitting on the PC board? I can fit the 1/2AA just fine, but is there a higher current rating on the 2/3AA compared to a 1/2AA?

Typically the larger the battery size, the more energy the battery stores.  If you use a smaller battery, you will get a shorter lifespan out of it, but it will work as long as it is the same voltage.

Yes I went ahead and ordered the 1/2AA size. I wonder if batteries like this, in general, are better/longer lasting than those made in the 80's? Did they have small lithium cells in 1982?

I usually install a "coin battery" holder and use a common 2032 type coin cell available everywhere....

Thought about that too but after reading Buzz's rant on just soldering in a battery, which is easier - I decided to do that.  :yes:
Plus it's my for my own slot. When I've sold them, I install a battery holder.
But I still wonder on battery technology and if smaller ones such as the button style or the 1/2AA size may actually be as good as a 3/4AA size from 20 years ago.
