Strange SP / SS chip set had different options.
« on: May 27, 2015, 09:18:02 PM »
In game mode there was no 5--1 / 5--2 that could be set for credit always option and no 6 option to set denomination.

So I installed a SET15 chip and instead of the usual 9--0 / 9--1 option I got a 3--1 plus there was no denomination option.

I noticed the board looked special with a manufacturers bug inside a square box with ST inside it.

The chip set was SP1160 and SS4749.

I tried a lower number SP chip, 870 I believe, and got a error code of 68. The SS chip would not work with the lower SP chip.

So I tried another board, one without the ST marking, and was able to use the set chip to enable the WBA bill validator and set the denomination.

I checked the bin file on disk and there was a notation for the SP1160 saying to be used only for boards without a DIP switch.

For future reference what is the procedure for using the set chip, or setting game options, on this kind of situation?

I put some standard game chips into the ST marked board and the board came right up and worked fine on our test machine.

Is this a 16 mz board? They have no volume pot on them. I had 1 machine with the 16 and it drove me crazy. I think that I used a set 90 on it.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

No, it was 10MHz and had DIP switches and somehow the ST version of the board gave me the 3--1 option only with a set15 chip but the same SS and SP chips in a non ST board got me to 9--1 and set the denomination.

Since I know nearly nothing on chip specs, I google searched the NLG site. I got this for the SP chip...I could only copy the link but just scroll down to your chip.

And for what it's worth, I found this on the SS chip in one of joeys lists.
