This started off as a WTB for the battery but now this will be a "HOW TO" if you have that battery in your s2000 with the enhanced MPU.
First, carefully de-solder the battery or simply clip the leads. Make sure there's no corrosion and damage to the traces in the PC board. If there's too much, you may have to replace the MPU. Otherwise, if the traces just look corroded, they can be cleaned. Search the site for this. It's posted in numerous places.

You can remove the Varta on an enhanced 1270 board. You either have to remove the chip thingy at U16 or jumper the +/- where that Sharta battery was.  :cool_thumb_up:

I do not recommend the jumper. Just remove the Regulator at U16 and the Varta battery itself and problem is solved forever.

It may be an MPU revision thing, but I have had 1270's that will not work by just removing U16. I had to jumper it and it then worked.

Never had a problem with just removing the regulator. Really don't like the idea of shorting the hot side to ground.

I've done maybe 30 of these battery mods on the 1270 and saved myself no end of trouble.

I wonder why a couple MPUs didnt take by removing U16.. I will take a closer look. I wouldn't want my Sizzling 7 to start Sizzling!

Thanks everyone for the info...
Sorry dumb question -  is U16 the regulator? I'm used to seeing heat syncs...

Yanking it out now... well carefully.

Yes U16 is the regulator surface mounted. The top of the regulator that is soldered to the board acts as the heat sink.
The easiest way to remove it is to clip the three leads with a small surface cutter then just apply a little heat from your soldering pencil to the top(heat sink) and remove.

Thank you, again -  :hail: -  everyone who chimed in here.

Okay it's done... Cleanly as possible. Parts sure did get small! I'm reassembling MPU back in the housing.

Working  :applause:

I realize this topic has gone around numerous times. I just didn't remember that the enhanced board could be modified. I know I read it though, but just forgot.  :duh:
Glad I got the dreaded Varta out before it caused more damage to the MPU.

Note: I'll modify this and move it to the S2000 area, unless another mod wants to. I have to get to work ~shortrackskater

Not to mention the $7 saving by not having to buy the battery.
