Validator problem

My I game has a WBA 12-ss. Will only accept 1 bills. I purchased a WBA 13ss.    When I installed the 13ss it never boots up, I tried a key 22.  Did not make a difference.  Please help the 13ss is suppose to have updated for new bills.  Purchased from rudys. When I boot up with the call ATT  comm failure

Did you purchase one for IGT machines?  It should have SW Ver 3.80-34, ID024.  It's usually labeled on the head and on the EPROM on the bottom of the transport.   Bally, Williams, and others use different software and also have a RS-232 board installed where IGT uses a proprietary Netplex protocol that does not use an RS-232 board.  They look the same, but they are not directly interchangeable.

On the old wba12, If it only accepted 1's did you try the older non-colored bills on it as well?  Are all the jumpers in the same position in the validator. 

comm failure could be as tilt says, incompatible software on the validator.  It needs to be IDO024.
