JCM UBA-11 firmware change
« on: November 14, 2015, 04:27:57 PM »
I recently picked up a couple of IGT GK machines that were having issues and I needed a new project.  The 044 based one was having touchscreen issues and the 3902 one booted further and showed a touchscreen comm fail and BV comm fail. Thanks to the fantastic troubleshooting ideas I found on here, I was able to figure out that both had BV issues. Once the BVs were disconnected, the rest worked great. Both have the newer JCM UBA-11-SS validators on them and when I looked at the firmware eprom, I saw that they might be setup for Aristocrat instead of IGT. After checking on the JCM website, they are indeed set up for Aristocrat machines. The firmware is:

UBA-11-SS Aristo
Gen7 ID-003
V2.07-25 (7D3D)

Can the firmware eprom be switched out for an IGT one without any other hardware changes or do I need to get a new head unit?

Thanks!

Gary,

The eprom can be changed to ID024. Not sure if the aristocrat uses the same protocol. If not it can be changed by configuring the jumpers on the board.

Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

Aristocrats use ID003 firmware.  We use UBA 10s, 14s and 24s on our floor.  The ones that have the eeprom, the 14s, don't have jumpers.  I did attempt to switch eeproms once, from an ID024 to an ID003 based firmware, and it did not result in a working BV.  It seems like the eeprom based are hard coded to a particular protocol.  I could be wrong, since we don't have any 11s.

10, 11 use jumpers. 14, 24, 25 do not.

OK, it's worth a shot to try. Does anyone know where I could get the IGT eprom for this model?

Ron,    I swapped out 003 for 024,    worked just fine,  didn't have to do anything else to the unit.

Thanks for all the help....got the new chips installed and had to change the jumpers on the head from RS232C to the Photo-Coupler Isolation configuration and everything worked great.
