WMS Magic Lamp boot issue
« on: November 12, 2018, 06:25:37 PM »
New to this sight and have been searching the forum and can't find my problemJust purchased a Magic Lamp and a spare parts machine, Jackpot I think. I see the M.L. as being the best one to fix. This is what I get.Machine lights and DMD boots, then nothing but constant BONG sound. No Bong with original IO board.
All 5 lights on IO board are lit. Original Had fail light lit, swapped with other machine and no fail light. If it sits for a few min. the DMD goes out, BONG never stops. Can not see if any lights are on, on the MPU. If any. Swapped with other MPU, did exact same thing.
Bill validator and coin mech seem to boot ok.Power supply? Bad ROMs?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
JIM

My money is in bad eproms, can you read them on a burner and post the checksums of all the chips?

Agree with Rick that it is probably the eproms, if you replaced the I/O board and did not have fail light on and still had the same issue with the constant bong. Do you have a burner?

Big Jim,

Instead of sending boards, why don’t you just send me the eproms (including dot eproms and U10) and info about game, 2 coin? jurisdiction? and I can reburn them for you. If this doesn’t work, we can address the boards which would be the next most obvious issue. Shoot me a PM and we can work it out.

I am knocking one thing after another off the list of bad.
One thing I think I need is a wire diagram for this machine.
I noticed I am missing the 5v on the far right side of the 20 pin connector. The one to right of the 12 and -12. Where does it go?
I did the computer power supply thing and found this wire is dead. I get 5 nice power lights and no error light.
I am still not booting. I do get a bong, 1 usually 5.
The diagnostic displays (credit counter) on the front of the door is dead, is this because CPU is bad?
The dmd display just stops at WILLIAMS. Could the DMD controller be affecting all the others?
The reels do not move and the little red led is not lit on any of them. They do light up.
Is it possible that the long flat board in the back, behind the CPU and IO boards, is bad? It only connects everything.
Getting lost but not giving up.   Jim

Jim,

I’ll shoot you a PM to setup a time to troubleshoot your issues. It’s easy to get lost when troubleshooting multiple errors at the same time. Take one issue at a time and eliminate what’s not the issue. Keep it simple, most errors are caused by either/or bad power supply, cpu board, I/o board, eproms (which we eliminated already), DMD display or backplane board (uncommon).
