Extension cables

Decided it was time to make a few extension cables.   I purchased a 30 pin cable a few or seven years ago.   Decide to start with an 18 pin followed by a 24 pin.   Although I checked continuity and ohms with each solder I haven't put into a machine yet.   Probably tonight or tomorrow.   Only forgot to put on heat shrink once, corrected.   Ended up getting a solder station with built in heat gun.   $60., good deal even if it don't last long but I think it will hold up just fine.   
I need to make another 18 pin.   742A has two 18 pin for reel mech.   Tells me it was a swap at some point.

I built 4, when I have a slot machine issue they come in real handy. The plugs are getting difficult to find, so if I locate one I will order it.

Made some cables a few years ago.
Used color coded communication cable.
If I remember correctly.
I plugged the ends together and started soldering in the middle row.

I am getting more efficient the more I make.  I also start down the center.   I am going to need the next size up "spare hand" the current one topples over to easily.  The alligator clips are fine the base needs more mass.

From my experience the best way for me soldering wires on a plug, is soldering with the two plugs together, one wire at a time, down one side, down the middle, down the other side. Everyone has their own technique that works best for you.

Those look really good. I've made up one extension so far, 3D printed a box to hold the plug and protect the connections, and made it easier to grip when pushing and pulling plugs.
