WBA 13 not accepting Bills
« on: November 16, 2023, 02:30:33 PM »
Hello all, I have two WBA 13 bill validators that are in machines that I have had for a few years. I have always just used quarters. I am trying to get them working now. When I turn the machine on the bill validator cycles as the back lights come up red and blue then go off. Then the blue LED flashes. After the reels spin the validator cycles again. Then I have a blue flashing LED and a solid red LED and it shows bill validator error on machine. I open and close door to clear validator error and then machine is ready to play but will not accept bills. When I go into the menu 3.3.1
The bill validator is enabled. When I run netplex autoconfig it says printer 2 not responding. Then when I go to validator test bill test it comes up and switches back and forth between test bill and bill validator door closed. It will not take Bill's. I bought new upgrade chips for both. Ok I put a complete bill validator from a machine that I knew worked and it worked in this machine also. So it has to be something with these validators and not in the cabinet in anyway. So does that mean these validators are gone or is there some stuff I can try to troubleshoot?  Thanks

I did some more testing by swapping the good head unit into the two none working validators.  Both transfer units worked good with the working head unit. So the problem is definitely in both of these head units. I watched all 4 videos from the JCM at  TechFest 10 that Randy Fromm posted. Does anyone know if there is a copy of the error charts ect that he talks about referencing on the videos? Any other information on cleaning and troubleshooting these head units would be appreciated. Also is there anyone out there that works on these head units?  Thanks

I went ahead and bought two complete bill validator units from a vendor on this site. I am going to do some more testing on the two heads that I have that will not work. If I ever find out anything I will report back.

Yes they are both out of  IGT S2000 machines. One is Triple Cash and the other is Triple Lucky Seven. The two I bought I put in and they both fired right up and worked. I know the transports on my other two are good. Just both heads have something wrong with them. Thanks

I bought new upgrade chips for both.

Is that chip inserted in the socket the correct direction?

Slotman, thanks for the file. The funny thing is I bet it was not 5 minutes since I found a file that has the info in it from slot tech. The one you sent me is more complete and detailed I think.

Stayouttadabunker, the chips are in the right direction. The notch is in the same direction as the ones that were in it also matching the notch on the pcb board. I put them in using my big desk lighted magnifying glass. All legs in place and no bent legs. When I get a chance I am going to test these heads and see what I can find out.

I have not read thru the file yet but I guess you use the LED on the door bezel during testing. When watching the videos he had a separate Led but he had a test setup.  Thanks

I have never tried to repair the boards in the head, just swapped them out with working ones. problem with that, hard to find working heads and they are expensive. In addition to that the "O" rings should be changed as well. there is a member on this site that can do those changes, the head sucks in the bill similar to an MEI. contact Sunrise Side on this site.

I used to buy a whole package of assorted "O" rings at Harbor Freight and take the heads apart.
It's not that hard to do.
Just take your time...it's a hobby.

Yeah on both of these heads it does not even try to pull the bill in. Like the sensors are not sensing the bill being put in. I am hoping with a bunch of testing I can figure out what is wrong with each one. I wish I had a bunch of bad ones to be able to do more experimenting on. If anyone has any bad ones they would be interested in sending me for experimental sake that would be great. Thanks

With the two problem heads you have, you may be able to swap parts between them, to have one working head.  :cool_thumb_up:

Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking. I would like to see also if there is any replacement sensors out there that would work as replacements. It would be nice to have that option as these validators start getting harder and harder to find. Also more expensive. That's why getting some more bad ones would be good. Hobby time.

You said you bought new upgrade chips.  So have those been verified to be proper?  Have you taken those and installed them in the known good head?  Or taken the EEPROM from the known good head and installed them in the problem head?

Ok I am confused. What I understand is the bill validator consists of three basic big parts. The head unit the transport unit and the cash can. The chips go in the transport unit not the head. I have the 2 new chips in two old transport units. With the original heads in them they will not work. If I take a known working head out of another machine leaving the transport unit in that machine and put just that head into the two other transport units they work great. So the chips have to be good. Thanks

Slotman, hey I appreciate the reply. I am learning this slot stuff so it does not take a lot to confuse me. I am with you I am pretty sure the two heads have an issue. Hopefully I will get to do some testing after the Thanksgiving holiday is over. Thanks
