BB 1.5 monitor swap question
« on: May 24, 2019, 05:37:38 PM »
I have a BB1.5 three reel transmissive multi game. It has 2 ,19 inch monitors.  What it be a lot of work to take the transmissive reels and monitor out and do a regular touchscreen monitor? And would I be able to start using BB2 games that use for touchscreen? What else would I have to replace other than monitor and is it worth it? Thanks

It is not that difficult to replace the 19" transmissive LCD for another 19" regular LCD (just make sure you get the entire thing with the brackets and the bezel), but if you really want to do the bb2 games, you are better off getting a widescreen monitor, it involves doing a bit more since you have to do some mods to the door to get the monitor to fit (and it is not a perfect fit), others have documented their bb1 to bb2 conversions, you might want to read up on it to get an idea.  BB2 cabinets are now widely available and they are not as expensive as they used to be, most places have them for around 1K or so.  The BB2 cabinets are more flexible and changing from video to transmissive (5 or 3 reel) native bb2 games (not the bb1 multigame version you have) is a lot easier.

You could also play any video title on your mnitor, but it will have those 3 "dark" areas where the reel openings are.  Just unplug the power to the reels so you don't get the noise.

You have to use BB2 games since you have a CPUNXT2 mpu.

1 more quick question. The 19 inch monitor I am looking at has one connector . A 10 pin connector that goes into the board and the monitor and the other connector is just my DVI. This 10 pin harness I am attaching is that the only one I need for power and touchscreen? Thanks

Yes, it’s touch screen cable. You still need a power cable for the monitor. The power cable to the monitor will provide the power for the touch screen controller. But are you saying that the monitor you want to use doesn’t have a power connector on the back of it?
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

It seems like there’s only one spot for regular cable( which is that 10 pin connector ) the other two are video cables. Unless it’s the kind of monitor I don’t want?

Yep, I do believe that on the BB1 18" and 19" monitors the 10 pin connector provides all that is required for power and touch screen.  On the BB2 22" monitors the power and touch screen connectors are separate.

Yep, should be good to go with that.  Make sure you have a 19" bezel to go with it and the mounting tabs to fit it to the door.
