Wms bb2 Malfunction when booting
« on: February 10, 2020, 02:48:51 PM »
When I started my bb2 Machine it stopped booting. Then I changed Batteries, disconnected the Mainboard, re-connected it, made a clear RAM and reboot again. I put some plugs out and in again but every time the Machine shows this Mistake and stopps Booting. Has anyone an idea what the problem could be? Thanks

The only thing I can think is that maybe the "new" nvram batteries you put in....are dead or below voltage?
I could be wrong on this?

No picture attached but BB2 uses CR2032 batteries.  Check the voltage on the batteries and make sure they are at 3.0v.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

You should not clear without batteries, the NVRAM will be corrupt when you boot back up.  Good batteries must be in the machine when you clear and play.  You could have an issue the the NVRAM itself, possibly zapping them when you changed batteries.

The “NV or HD initialization failure” leads me to believe you have a NV ram issue or a bad Hard drive.
More likely the hard drive has failed.

The error is while mounting the NVRAM partition, there's probably nothing wrong with the drive.  You could disconnect the hard drive on a bb2, the games will still work.  But I'm with idesign, if he did a clear with a new set of good batteries and still got the error, there's probably an issue with the NVRAM on the mpu board at this point.

For the life of me I don't know why he plugged and unplugged various things, why on earth would you do that for?

Always check the "Best Used Before" date on a package of batteries and test with a multimeter before installing.

I was about to say the same thing as Rick, the BB2 will work without a HD/SSD.  Another NLG member did the same thing on a battery change with a BB3, he zapped the NVRAM.....a very costly mistake I'm afraid.

Yes power off, and change batteries.  I even go the extra mile and remove the mpu out and do the batteries outside the cabinet, you don't want bend the holder because you are trying to squeeze your fingers into the little space.  Then you do a clear and setup procedure.

It's also a good idea to discharge any static by grounding yourself before handling the mpu, especially if you have carpet in the room and the air is dry.

The NVRAM is below the batteries.  :sherlock:
You can't remove them very easily.

If the NVRAM if bad (they are component chips mounted on the mpu board), you will need to buy another MPU (should go around $200 to $300).  Something else to check is I would make sure the mpu is seated all the way in.  There's pull handle to the lower right that will "lock" the mpu into place.  Make sure the mpu is seated in all the way.  You could also send your mpu to be tested or find someone locally who can test it to make sure the mpu has gone bad.

Check to be sure the batteries are installed with the polarity is correct.  These coin cell 2032's can easily mistakenly installed backwards.
