WMS BB2 "No Signal"
« on: September 27, 2023, 09:01:23 AM »
I got a "No Signal" on both WMS BB2 LCD screens this morning.  :scratch-head_2:
I pulled out the MPU from the machine and threw it into my bench tester.
Removed the cover, took a look inside the MPU, removed the SSD/holder from it's plastic mount.
Only to discover that the video driver board is cooked...it was brown as dead grass! :hissyfit:

The fix...>>>
Replaced with another old video card (These rarely come brand new).
All is well.
What caused it to burn out? Age?
No...A bad MPU fan was not drawing in any air.
Without it, the video card HAD to overheat.
I then replaced the fan as well.

Short video I made...sorry it came out sideways...lol...>>>

I consistently see CPU's with a dead chassis fan and a roached video card. Terrible design and most places don't do enough preventative maintenance to replace the fan regularly enough.

I think if there was an alarm or flashing candle when the temperature sensors are near the upper limits, the problems could be averted?
That idea is too good right? :Tongue_Out:

Be like the IGT's and tilt the machine when it detects it's running too hot.

Definitely pays to clean and/or replace the fans inside of the CPU.

I've got 4 or 5 dead Video Cards due to overheat issues.

Plus, it's always a good idea to install the cover door on the Bluebirds, as this will help to properly direct the airflow.

I've seen way too many BB2s without the CPU covers.

Just my 2 cents.
