S+ Coin Comparitor or Divertor Problem
« on: August 28, 2021, 03:57:59 PM »
On my IGT S+ Haywire Deluxe machine with coin comparitor CC-16D set up for quarters, I get a similar problem as a prior post listed here:  http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=12216.0

I get the same chatter sound after a game ends, but if I load up the bets it will stop.

I have tried to unplug the solenoid wires and that doesn't cure it, same sounds of the chatter.

If you unplug the comparitor wires all together the sound goes away, so it's something within the CC or divertor.

When I tried using pennies, they were accepted and loaded like a quarter.

So, which one of these components would you suggest needs replacement or some other type of fix?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Sounds more like the rake coil on the back of the comparitor. Put a piece of paper or thin cardboard under the rake to hold it open then disconnect it (2 gray wires). It should work and end the chatter but the only problem is extra coins will drop into the hopper. If it works other that that, replace the rake. Must be 24vac (gray wires) or the whole comparitor. 12/13vdc comparitors have green wires.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

Ron (RB)

Thanks, I tried that and it works.  I originally wasn't disconnecting the right wires.

You think just the rake solenoid with the 2 gray wires is the problem?

Do you happen to have any of those?

Comparitor issue. Changing the cap on the comparitor circuit board may fix it.

It will. Those caps get dry and make the DC voltage "chatter".
Change the capacitor and the chatter will cease.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Thanks Sunrise Side & Badbaud for the info about the cap on the circuit board.

I've attached a picture of it, can someone kindly identify the part in question......I have no electronics experience!

Plus, where would I be able to get the part?  We had a Radio Shack at one time here in town, but I wouldn't know where to go today for the part?  Maybe someone has one?

Thanks again!

This is the axial aluminum electrolytic capacitor you need to replace.  I can't read the value and voltage but I have them. It is probably 220uf 25V axial.

I can ship you a couple if you want. PM with your address if you like. Cheaper than buying and shipping online.

If you are not able to do the soldering, or have someone you know who can - I can fix it and send it back for nominal charge. She what a used one with a replaced cap costs 1st, maybe cheaper. Don't throw it away.

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Hi Tony

Thanks for your help!  I will take it back out of the machine this coming week and get the specs, been playing it with rake disconnected and forced in the open position per RB (Ron).  It's been working fine, except every now and then it will not register a coin on multiple drop-ins.

I guess that is the common part that goes bad when they start the chattering and only stop upon loading the bets or disconnecting.

I'll send you a PM once I get the info.

Thanks again!

220uF at 35V

V peak = Vrms x 1.414

Yes the cap is common fix. 35V or 50V cap like Badbaud posted above. Be sure the 50V axial will fit, they are a little bigger. Can always go higher voltage rating (size permitting) but need to keep with the same capacitance value.

They are polarized ( +&-) so be sure to put it in correct. If you don't you will know the first time you power it up. They tend to explode like a firecracker.  :fryingpan:

If you need some, check pricing and let me know.
