1970
« on: June 26, 2016, 08:34:07 PM »
The tag says 1970. Question if the contents are the same.  In 1970 the number one song was bridge over trouble water.  I feel that way right now.  This Bally is definitely a custom and in working condition.  So why the post?  Trying to get a little history on Ikes Delight.  Picked it up 3 weeks a go.
Will post a photo tomorrow. Seems like it belongs in a roadside casino in Nevada.  Ikes Delight does not have much posted about it, only a belly glass on the internet

Well Brian, Ikes Delight sounds like a Nevada brothel to me. They had slots back then and customized belly glass as well. You might research Nevada brothels for your answer.

Here are the photos of Ike's delight.  I must say I like the first thought of where it may be from

In that case you might want to wipe down all the surfaces with a good disinfectant,
all those hands & fingers that touched it may have touched other things too.   :jeannie:       :garfield:

Now that I have seen the photo,  it is from the Plaza Hotel and not a brothel. I too wonder then what Ikes Delight was.

Maybe originally it was a dollar machine, didn't people used to call Eisenhower dollar coins "Ike's"?

Pretty sure it was custom built just to make way for the new Ike dollars.  These were introduced as the real silver dollars were phased out.  As a kid here in Reno, mom would send us to the store with a big pocketfull of real silver dollars to buy groceries.  Those were the days.  I still have about 20 Ikes, and 30 real silver dollars laying around.
Probably going to use the Ikes as tips when I go out to eat.
Or it would be fun to lay one on the craps table and see if they let it ride or try to change it out for a token.
The real picture of the Face on Mars.

Thanks to everyone who responded.  May have solved our question 45 years ago on July 2 1971 on one main Street in Las Vegas with the opening of the Union Plaza Hotel and Casino.  At the time the largest in the world.  When I looked at the SM I decided based on Old Reno post this could be a hotel in NV.  Checked for a hotel named Plaza and this is what came up.  Looked at how the letters spell the name Plaza and it matched the jackpot on the glass.  I think this may have been a dollar at one time based on Ikes.  Same year the Ike dollar came out. If I had a hopper and other parts I would convert it back
Thanks again everyone.  It's amazing the answer may be 45 years ago today with the opening of a hotel
