65 0 Error
« on: March 06, 2016, 12:14:45 PM »
I Have an IGT S+ "Chaos" slot machine here I'm trying to get working. When I plug it in and turn it on I get a 65 0 error code, if I close the door nothing changes, but if I press the test button or turn the reset key it goes through the menus. The machine is running a 16mhz board with a SP1027 type 2/21 chip in it. When I first got the machine the battery was dead, I Have since replaced the battery and now have the error. Would I need to run my clear chip?

A 65-0 is a bad EPROM device.
I would be sure the game EPROM is seated right and if it is good and still get a 65 code then try the clear

It might be a bad EPROM
Was it working before you changed the battery?

I'm not sure, when I got it it never worked, I measured 0v on the battery so I replaced it and I now get the 65 0 error

Do you have another reel chip to test to see if the one you have is bad?

Ya when I put the other chip in nothing comes up on the screen. I put the other chip back in and I get the 61, then I press the test button and get 61 1, close the door and then I get the 65 0

I wonder if your game chip is not supported by the 16 mg board
the ones I have used are the 1272 game chip

I also have a few other SP chips. 731, 873, 939,1137 and 1146. I know a couple are type 2 but not sure if they will work on the 16mhz board. I will do some testing

65-0 is bad EEPROM device not EPROM.  The EEPROM  is the 8 pin chip on the backplane, sometimes this is soldered other times it is socketed, either way you probably need to replace it or just get another backplane.

The 1137 is a Tokenization  machine chip. Not a type 2 but good for 0,1,4,5 type games and some others. Good to have if you want to tokenize a machine.

A little confused. You are getting 65-0. When you push the test button after that, it goes into the menu? It should clear by pressing the test button for 1 second then close and latch the door.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

I would say you need a SP-1272 for 16mhz board to start with, the one you listed I don't see, but probably for 10mhz. If that doesn't work then would try reel chip and go from there. As always make sure chips are inserted in the proper direction.

I think he's going to have to use a 1252 as a 1272 is a type 0,1,4,5 chip and he needs a 16mhz Type 2 game chip.

No problem. Sometimes these posts can get really confusing and the end result is very likely his motherboard (backplane). But at least we get him going in the right direction.

Hey guys, just thought i would update this. So I pulled out the back plane and a spare one I have that was corroded. I desoldered the chip off the corroded board and soldered it back onto the good board and when I put it back it I got a 65 2 which was easy to clear and then the game worked! Turns out the chip on the backlplane was faulty
