Bill Validator dead, 2 amp fuse blown
« on: December 14, 2020, 06:06:59 PM »
I have this S+ up and running except for the bill validator. I noticed a blown 2 amp fuse on the board plugged into the validator. Any ideas if this would be a board issue, or the validator ?

If you removed that DBV power supply board from the enclosure, I'd put it a bench, change out the fuse,  and test the voltages coming out of it first before re-installing.
Did the cover have air vents?

Below I attached the voltages for the power supply unit...>>>

The cover does have air vents. I will pick up a fuse and test the voltages. Thanks for the information...

That fuse is not just blown, it vaporized!  I'd take a look at the bridge rectifier, probably one of the diodes is shorted.

I don't, but I circled the bridge rectifier in green.  May have been the camera flash, but the cap I put a green circle on also looks bulged.  Probably easier and cheaper just to replace it with a known good one.  Check with Jim at Midwest slots.  He may have one.

Replaced the fuse, bridge rectifier and electrolytic capacitors, left validator unplugged and powered on. The fuse blew and shorted out the new rectifier, guess I will be looking for a replacement board at this point.

Wow! The central area of that board looks well-cooked doesn't it?
Nice attempt to repair it though!
Place a WTB in the Classified section of NLG and hopefully a member/vendor will have what you need!

I have a tested working PS if you want it. I just hope that whatever is causing yours to blow doesn't kill another one.
$25 plus shipping. PM me if interested.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

Must be another downstream component is shorted too.  I hate it when you smoke new components, but it's happens sometimes.  Unless you just want to tinker with it to learn I'd take RB up on his offer and get the machine back up and running.

Thanks RB, but I ordered one a little earlier, but appreciate the offer. Need to check my input voltage before plugging in a new board.  Without a schematic, it is a little difficult to troubleshoot.
