S Plus Power Supply Problem??
« on: January 02, 2021, 07:56:56 PM »
I have my first IGT S Plus, It powers on so I have 110v (lights up) and the Reel motors are locking in but no display. The BV runs when the power is applied. A reading on the 24 volts shows only 12.5 volts on my meter. The connector from the power supply to the motherboard is Not burned. Any ideas about a fix if it is the power supply? When the 24 volt fuse is removed same results. All fuses check out.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you perhaps measuring VDC instead of AC?

The power supply puts out TWO 12 volt lines to make 24 volts....you're only measuring one line to get 12 volts.

Good afternoon, I am checking with AC on the meter and I am getting the 12 vac at the 24 v fuse. OK, I took the power supply out of the slot and its on my bench. Since there is a power on switch in the slot what would I jumper to get the power supply up. Or?? I want to make sure I do this properly since I am not familiar with this one. Can someone tell me the method I should use to get in going on the bench so I can check the secondary voltages?
The numbers on the connectors part of the power supply are the only connections.

thanks
Larry

I'm not near a machine.
Just follow the power switch wires down to the connector on the power supply box.
Note the wire colors and pin locations.

I do have all the voltages, I checked them at the plug to the motherboard. So moving on I have removed the Processor board and even though the Game Glass shows it to be a Triple Diamond there are NO game prom or reel prom installed. U52 and U53 are empty. Would the Game and Reel proms missing prevent the game from starting at all?? Should have checked this before. The seller said it was working in the past but not like this so I am guessing now that it was not working before. The battery is good. There were a bunch of IC chips in the stand and a lot of reel strips and glass for other games. I am posting photos. I have the belly glass for each as well. Not sure what chips I can use in this game. Does not seem to be a set.

Machine will not boot up without a reel and game chip installed.

If you go to the NLG home page.
Bottom Right is Ricks FAQs
There is a S+ game bible.
Find your theme (based on the glass).

You should be able to go to the theme and see which reel chip is appropriate.
It will also say what "Type" of game. Type 0 is the most common (no special features) and at least 10 game chips meet this criteria.
Any of which should work.

Might also be helpful if you list which SS and SP chips you have.
From your pictures you have a SP1271 and a SP731 (both are type 0 game chips). 1271 is newer.
I also saw you had a SS Triple reel chip.

I would insert these (regardless of what glass you have installed) making sure the notch is the same way as the notch in your socket.
This should get the game up and running even if you have the wrong strips and glass for the chips.
We can work further from there,.

So you are saying to put the SP1271 in the Game Prom socket and the SS Triple Reel chip in the Reel Socket and see if the game starts up? I did find that the power supply is working fine. I would just like to confirm that is what you meant. I have found the Triple Diamond chips and clear/BV chips for the game and will order them.

I will take a look at the information you said to check out.

thank you
Larry
