S+ Double Diamond 3100 hopper error

repeated 3100 errors now, im going to try disassembling and cleaning the hopper, its kind of dusty.

In fact, I went ahead and split this in to a new topic since it's a "new" issue with your machine.

If you look at the list of common IGT errors (here), you'll see that 3100 is an "extra coin out" error.

The most common cause of this is that the spring that pulls on the hopper brake is either disconnected or broken.  The hopper brake is a little piece of plastic that, when the motor is de-energized, springs into place to abruptly stop the hopper wheel from turning.  If the brake isn't getting engaged properly, the motor just glides to a stop, and in the process an extra coin will be dispensed out of the hopper, causing the 3100 error since the machine detects that an extra coin has been paid out.

another very common cause for the 3100 code:  the pivot point for the metal piece that pulls in gets dirty, and the metal piece will stay in against the motor winding ,in turn allowing the hopper motor to coast a little after the power has been remove from the motor.  simply push down on the metal piece that pivots and release it, it should spring back up immediately, if it doesn't then you have to disassemble that area and clean all the parts involved. especially the inside ring of the metal piece and the plastic piece. you will notice caked on black residue (dirt) it all has to be removed.

Modify your post with a larger picture and remove old picture.

Cleaned everything up. it really wasn't too  dirty.  going to run a couple hundred coins in to see if i can duplicate the 3100 on cash out. thanks guys, will touch back when i know more.

What do you mean by pivoting metal piece ?
I’m having trouble I hope you see this .

At the back of the hopper there is a hopper brake.
When its running It gets pushed out via a solenoid and when the pay out stops it gets pulled back with a spring.
Its on a pivot.


What Jim is saying is that the Piviot could be dirty and not pulling back immediately or the spring could be broken.
