Will this coil setup work? B25-925A coil for step up
« on: February 20, 2016, 07:24:22 PM »
While trouble shooting my Bally 847 Continental..(quite a task) I came across a plunger melted in a coil on the step up, on my odds unit. the coil when set into the correct holes and collar..the actual terminals are on the wrong end...I have not powered it up but was wondering if it would push..rather than pull.
sorry for sounding so newbish..but I am trying! lol

they all face the other way I found 20 old style step up units they all face the other way and I think they're out of pinball machines
but the coil numbers right so it should work just fine hook it up and play it

We used to hook those up to a 50V supply in the shop, and shoot the plungers across the room.
Kind of a rail gun.

Well, I installed the coil but I think the anti-cheat burnout, is preventing the operation at this point. I uploaded a close up to show 3 contact points. I did read the archives on this, but still somewhat confused as to how to work around it. If anyone could enlighten me. That would be awesome! Thanks
Rick

The 3 terminals show it is a coil designed to be held on for long periods of time without burning up.
It takes more energy to pull it in than to hold it in, so after one set of terminals pull it, the other set holds it.
What is important is NOT what the coils do, but the switches attached to the relay.
You could probably clip the orange wire, eliminating the coil, and then adjust the necessary switches so that they are either closed or open as required by looking at them when the coil paddle has them shown as energized.
Hope that makes sense, but that's what I'd do to take it out of circuit.
It is probably energized by several weighted 'slam' switches you may find spaced around the top box.
