Media player for original BB2 cabinet top monitor.
« on: May 15, 2016, 08:48:25 AM »
Hello, I've seen several posts about running a media player of one kind or another to the top box monitor of a BB2, but when I look closely, most seem to be doing this for a BB1 conversion.  Has anyone had success doing this for a native BB2 monitor and cabinet?

It doesn't seem like it would matter, but I've went through two media players and various raspberry pi/screenly configurations and each time results similarly.  Set up works great on TV or computer monitor I hook it to my bb2 cabinet and it either fails miserably or works for a couple minutes then fails miserably.  Once it's failed, the device no longer works on a tv or monitor.  For the raspberry pi, I can clear the OS, and reload it and repeat the cycle so it doesn't appear to be causing hardware failure, it seems more likely that the communication between the software and the monitor is somehow corrupting data on whatever device is talking to it.

I am doing this so I can display a non sideways Alice.  So an alternate theory is that fate and the universe have conspired in such a way that me + BB2 + Alice will always end in painstaking trouble shooting.

My gut is that the alternate theory is the more accurate one.

In my case, I am using a Mini HD Media player.
I Have the BB1.5 conversion. My top monitor is a oem from a BB2.
I have had no problems with this set up, The Alice file works great!

Well, that kinda confirms theory #2....

Do you have to follow any kind of order of operation when powering things on?  I.E. Power machine first then turn on media player, or media player first then power BB2 etc?

I'm trying to pin down what I could be doing differently.

Thank you.

I turn on the media player, then the machine.
Not sure if that really makes a difference.

I run the same setup as Jim and mine always works fine.  Same OEM Kristel 22" top monitor.  Shouldn't matter if it's a BB2 or BB1 conversion...hardware is the same.  The media player type might play into it if there are differences between what we are all using.

Thanks,
Jason

Thank you and I agree. I just thought that it was possible that the OEM monitor was different but if you are all running that I can't see any reason why mine isn't up and going. It was a long shot, but all my test runs work well until I connect to my my BB2.

I dug up up the two media players that I've already tried and they look similar, but are at least differing in brand to the one that Jim posted.  I'll see if I can find the same model he has.

Charles is pretty close to me and offered to lend a hand on the Raspberry Pi side as well.

It may take some trial and error but eventually it'll get there :-)
