Help! Very new to a IGT S-plus with 61-1 code

My name is Josh, I have recently picked up a S-plus machine at a yard sale.  The owner said a coin was jammed.  I have a little experience from vending machine repair so I figured I would give it a shot.  When I first got the machine home I did find some jammed coins as if someone tried to put two or three in at the same time.  Once i cleared the coins I found there was a (12) code.  A little you tube research and I found the battery was bad and I replaced it.  I now have been getting the (61) code.  I used this site to hit the reset button and would get the 61-1.  I closed the door, turned the key and it only went back to 61.  The tilt light gives me a code of disabled machine.  So what do I do from here?  Thanks in advance...

As long as you followed all the instruction having the door closed and the latch all the way down before turning the reset key, you will most likely need to get clear and set chips for S+. When the code 12 is present and someone turns the key thinking it's magic, it gives the nasty 61 Loop which is what you are describing

So I’ve read a lot of people having same issues and a ram clear chip did the trick.  What is the downside to using a ram clear chip?  I just want my little investment to work.  Where do I get a ram clear chip?

You just have to set the options for home use. There is a section in S+ about how to home settings. Most anyone on our dealer banner can set you up with chips and easy instructions

I want it to still have pay outs, I want money in and money out.  I want it to be as close to Vegas style as possible. How would I do that

To change the settings and options on how your machine operates you will have to find and use the white TEST button that is located inside the machine. Pressing it will bring up the Setup menus, you look at the front display on the machine to see what menu step you are on. They are all numbered.  Certain menu steps will let you set the options you want. Each machine has a large circuit board (the mpu board) that has a chip on it that controls all of of this, it is called the SP chip. Different machines have different SP chips. We need to know what SP chip your machine has to give you specific instructions. Follow these easy instructions to find out your SP chip.

But you need to fix the error 61 problem before trying to change the options & settings.

Broken machines sold at yard sales often have more than one problem. Take care of one thing at a time.

If the machine is stuck in the error 61 loop you will need to use a CLEAR chip to fix it.

It’s stuck!!! 100%.  Reel Prom and game prom look like both have been replaced at some point with hand written numbers on top of them.  The reel prom is SS4629 and game prom said S+game SP731. Are those the numbers you were looking for or something more specific under the stickers maybe?

If your machine is stuck in the error 61 loop then you will have to CLEAR it by using a Clear chip. If you do not have one then you'll have to get one. If you need to buy one then you should also think about getting a SET chip, they are often sold together as a pair. The SET chip is needed if you have a bill validator so that you can enable it after the Clear process. The S+ Clear and Set chips are available at many places online, and we have folks here on NLG that have them. Just post a message saying you want to buy them and you will get offers and responses to your request. Or contact any of the vendor sponsors listed on the NLG homepage.

As was mentioned in the post earlier about the error 61 you should make sure your door optics are working ok. You will be wasting your time doing a Clear if there are other reasons your machine is giving the error 61. Make sure you carefully follow the instructions for trying to clear the error 61. Don't assume it is stuck in the 61 loop, prove it to yourself. It is easy for new S+ owners to make a mistake about this.

Yes, those are the SS & SP chip numbers that you found on the chip labels. On older machines like this it is not unusual to find that someone has replaced these 2 chips before you got the machine.

Your SS4629 chip means this should be your game:

Notice the SS4629 in the chart above, your player win percentage with this chip is about 96%, which is a pretty good level.

Ok yes that is the correct game.  So now what will I need to get the clear chip and get this machine back up and going?  Again, I want to make sure it’s still a gambling machine and not just a play game.  Thanks for all of your help this far.

Not sure what you mean about a "play game". All IGT S+ machines are designed for gambling in the casino, that doesn't change when you bring one home.
