WMS BB2 touchscreen Issue

Hello everyone, I'm new to this board and hoping to get some help.


I recently purchased a reasonably priced WMS BB2 and it has a touchscreen issue, neither I or my friend know how to fix it. We are loading a software when the problem came up during installation.  We tried replacing the cable and monitor with working ones , but the result is the same.  Has anyone encountered such an error?

It would help if you provide more information.  Are you getting a touchscreen comm error on the display,  a dead spot on the display or what?

It shows on the monitor;


"ERROR COMMUNICATING WITH TOUCH SCREEN, please check cable."


We thought it was the cable or the display, but we plug in a known working ones and the error is still there when we restart the machine...same error message

It's probably the touch screen controller board inside the monitor.  If you take the back cover off the monitor, follow the wiring from the connector to controller board.  When powered up it should have a LED indicating it's powered up and communicating.  Could be a loose connection too. 

I don't suppose you have a spare monitor you can hook up to it and would confirm this, do you?

We did use a different know working monitor, it still shows the same error... we actually used 3 different ones and connected it directly to the touchscreen terminal in the backplane...same result.

Ok, it may be that the cpu is not seated correctly, with the machine off try reseating it, pushing down and making sure it’s locked in place with the lever on the lower right below it. Otherwise may be the backplane.

Tried that just now, replacing the CPU with a known working one, no change in the error message.


I did notice that when loading it had this "serial microtouch hardware not found"

On BB2's the touchscreen cable has 2 harnesses.  One goes from backplane to the the side panel, and the other one goes from side panel to monitor.  Are both harnesses present?

Mine are plugged directly into the backplane in both machines, but I have some plugged into the side panel too.

Both cable outlet are present for the touchscreen.  I was thinking that the side cable ones that goes to the backplane may be the issue, but after using a different working wire and connecting directly to the backplane that we know those are ok. 


I'm going to replace the backplane, I hope the problem is there and will correct it.  I'll update later when I find out.
