I have owned an S plus machine for years and I never needed to use a Clear Chip. In fact, I have Two S Plus machines and I have never owned a Clear chip.
I have also searched through all of my documentation and find no mention of the use of a Clear chip.
Does anyone have any official IGT documentation on when to use a clear chip and exactly what it does to the machine?
My understanding is that the whole reason for a clear chip is to wipe the data from the EEPROM in the event that the EEPROM's data gets corrupted... Am I understanding this correctly?
I have also read (from this forum) that it clears all of the machine setup data (I am guessing that it sets it to some factory default values???), so I guess it must also clear the EPROM located on the processor board as well?
Am I missing anything? I just would like some solid information on exactly what the clear chip does to the machine.
Thanks!
Joe
