summary repair bally big winner
« on: October 17, 2021, 03:06:37 PM »
Last week I managed to finalise the repair of my e 2000 Bally Big Winner, code 2407-2, produced for the Benelux around 1984. When I bought the machine only the display and the general lights were working. Although several suggestions came from the forum it did not help me further, also because no one knew the mpu board or this machine and no schematics were available. Finally I found Ruud in Holland who provided me with the schematics and I could go forward.
Powersupply, AS 2982-5, gave the correct voltages and also hopperboard, AS2981-6, looked ok.In meantime display did not work anymore, but reset and test button looked ok.
Replaced cpu 2650, ram 6116 and made new eprom on mpu board, AS 2978-21: no result
Found that ic U7, 74ls240 was defect, replaced and display worked again
Checked wiring and connectors: all ok
Test 2 and 4 are ok; test 5 not ok, test 8 not ok
Switching machine on/of sometime caused reelcoils staying activate, but coinlockcoil and coindeflectorcoil did not do anything.
Playing around with on/off switch and keyswitch I found that keyswitch was defect; new keyswitch caused coinlock and coindeflector to get energized and reelcoils stayed off when starting the machine.
test 5 and test 8 still not ok; up to the reel mechanism, as 2983-2.
Reelcontrolboard, AS 2983-2: visible damage U3, so replaced U3,74145 and  also as precaution U1, 7417 and U2, 74c14; on all 3 reelreaders, AS 2977-2, led and photo on position 3 were out, also Q6, mps6517 was defect, replaced them all.
Test 8 almost correct, but test5 not; reels spin like normal in test 8, but in play only first reel stops after spinning, but 2 and 3 keep spinning. In test 8 without reels the brake mechanisme worked well, in play without reels brakes did not work.
In test 8 first reel 7 gave on display 200 win, whatever symbole on 2 and 3, looks like reel 2 and 3 were not recognized.
Checked schematics and found that U5, ic7417 and U6, 74ls273 were out; replaced them and all is working ok now.

Thanks to all input from forummembers I was able to get this machine working again, but special thanks to Trisail (Tony), without his knowledge and logical thinking I would be lost, Philippe from France and Ruud from Holland.
