You’re going to need to do it again.
After you changed it to a 1 then you need to either hit spin or turn the reset key to lock it in.
Yeah I did it just like the instructions say. Push spin until it says 9…1 which I did. Then turn on machine saw the 61 message pushed the white button until 61-1. Closed the door turned the jackpot key once.

After you push the spin button to desired denom you must push the test button.

use the test mode to double check and see if the settings took., press the white test button, until you see a 5-0 or 5-1 or 5-2 in winners paid, scroll through that menu until you get to 9-1 if it is set you will see this,  then advance until you see a 6 in the coins played window, should see 25 in the winners paid, spin reels lit, pressing it , the number will not advance, then it is set.

check the bulbs in the yellow display using the denom socket, power is there as soon as power is applied.
make sure cash can is pushed in all the way, make sure the transport is seated and sitting on the bottom of the shelf assembly, red handle all the way up,  on power up, heavy grinding noise, this is the transport meshing with the cash can, next noise is a softer meshing between the head and transport.

switch should not have any wires on it, they should be bypassed,  that switch is not needed.

hope this helps

Jim

Quick question once I get to 5…1 how do I scroll through that menu to get to 9..1?   Do I push the one credit button or spin reels or do push the test button again?

Yeah I did that then selected the denomination then held for 3 seconds like it said to save.

After you save, change away from 9 and then come back and ensure you still have 9 - 1 if its not 9 - 1 then it hasn't saved.

Do I push the one credit button or spin reels or do push the test button again?
Look at those numbers as pages in a book.
The Test button lets you "scroll" thru the pages to get to the page 5, or the page 9.
The Spin button changes the setting ( which is the second number ) from like a "0" to a "1".

The Test button advances you to page 9.
The Spin button changes the setting from like a zero to a "1".

I would like to use the test switch to see if it is set to 9….1 to show the bill validator is enabled. Still confused how to get there. First I push the test switch then what. Do I push it until I get to 9…0 or 9…1?  I did this earlier but didn’t see this. At what point to you push the spin reels and other buttons. Just can’t seem to get to the 9…1 by using the test switch. I am doing this just to check the settings. With the game chip still installed. I did the bill validator and denomination setting earlier just want to confirm it is set. Thanks.

How to get there differs from different SP chips.  After you get to 5 try turning the JP reset key to get to 9.

On the MPU, the SP chip that's inserted in the GAME socket, what number is it...SP731?

For all we know, it could be an old code that hasn't been cleared yet.
There's nothing in this thread that indicates to me that the door has ever been in a closed-state.

I have a SP731 chip and a BV on/off chip. You can see the pics earlier in the thread. I used the BV chip and I got to the option to turn on the bill validator using 9-1.

okay...it wasn't clear to me if that chip was installed, or just an extra one.

Can you tell us if the door optics are working?
Does the "Insert Coin" lamp come on the reel glass after you close the door?
It's the one next to a denomination lamp.

Yes the door optics work and the insert coin comes on. I went into the setting again and it was set for the bill validator to be enabled which is the 9…1 on the slot machine screen. Still doesn’t light up or work. Don’t know what to do at this point and really don’t want to keep taking out the chips because I don’t. Want to mess something up. I’m sure it has something to do with the bill validator or maybe the software on it? Probably just leave like it is I guess.

Did you  also set a denomination like 0.25 or 0.01 ?
The purpose of the set chip is to enable the bill validator and set the dennomination so it knows how many credits to give for a $1.00 bill.
If no value was set I could see that the validator would not activate ?

Yeah I set it to 25 for 25 cents. Save d it and went through it again to make sure it was set and it was.  The bill validator makes noises on startup but maybe it’s defective? How do I make sure it working or if it’s set correctly above the cash box?

It's been a while since I've enabled a bill validator, but I don't think a 61 error is a correct thing to encounter after enabling it with the SET chip, is it?
This question intrigued me Knagl...I had to see if that's what happens.
So, I removed the SP731 from my MPU, threw in a CLEAR chip...:rotfl:
Ran the Clear chip, then pulled that out, and put in a SET015 chip.

Turned on the power, enabled the DBV by flipping 9-0 to 9-1, and 6-0 to 25cents...when you press the Test button, the [Coins Played} window goes to zero.
That's when I KNOW my settings are saved.
Shut off the power, removed SET015, re-installed the SP731 and powered back up.
Sure enough, first thing that pops up on the display is [61].
Held in the Test button for roughly 2-3 secs to get to [61-1], I then closed the door pushed the door latch fully downwards, and turned the J/P Key once...3 things happens next...>>>

The lower half of the candle flashes (actually, it was flashing the whole time until I completed one game later.), the "Insert Coin", and the yellow bill bezel light up.
At that point, the machine's DBV accepts a dollar bill...no problem.
Just for kicks, I did it all over twice to see if I get the same results.
I got pretty much the same [61], but I also got the [65-1].
Opening the door and pressing the Test button knocks it off.
Then you close the door and wait a few seconds for the bezel lights to come on.

So my question now is....when you [61] and press the Test button for roughly 2-3 seconds, does it turn to [61-1]?
If so, at that point, close the door and turn the key once and the [61-1] goes away.
If it goes away but comes back as [61], run the Clear chip, and do what I did above.

You need to try it again this way:

Clear machine and clear 61, THEN use the set15 to enable BV and set denom to see if the 61 comes up again afterward.

Hello yes it went to 61 then held the test button down and it went to 61-1. Closed the door turned the jackpot and everything came back on like it was supposed except the bill validator. I have tried it twice now and same result. It has to be something with the validator or the software like someone said. Can you just swap out validators or do you have to Download software for it? Thanks for everyone’s help.

Try Clear chip procedure as SCM asked....we want to see if the [61] keeps coming back.
It sounds to me like there's a stuck logic signal somewhere....for ex. could be a bad EEPROM 24C04 chip on your motherboard.
It's that small chip way over on the left hand side of the motherboard located on the floor of the cabinet.

We don't know yet, why the [61] won't clear.
