Bill validator not working

Sounds like the 61 is clearing now.  I was just saying to correctly test if 61 comes up after just using set chip you can't clear first because it will always come up after clearing.

You have a 731, when you get to the 5-1 test push the change button to scroll through that menu, 9-1 will show up as you do, then go to 10-1, change button until 27, yellow lamps should be on, never did answer my question if you checked the bulbs? 
Go to the first post in s plus section , click on it, go to the how to guide, use the diagnostic cards there, tells you how to use the buttons to go through all the menus , test every switch, function, lamp, etc.

Yeah I checked the bulbs they are good.
Tried many different dollar bills and didn’t want to take any at all not even sucking in the bills at all.

It will test it and eliminate it as being good or bad.
Did you unhook the four pin connector on the right front transport to see if it started to search for the cash can?

Are you sure the head and transport are inserted correctly?

SET15  Yes it can show which SS and SP is installed. http://www.newlifegames.net/spset/SPSS.htm

Will that procedure show you what SET chip is in the GameChip socket.
The PSR shows what SET chip is needed (Set15) but his SET chip is labeled Validator On/Off
So we don't know if he has perhaps a newer and not properly compatible set chip....
Just drawing at straws here......

No when set chip is installed you can't do anything but enable BV and set denom.

My advice to you would be to ship it to Jim.
Send him that SET chip too...he can check it out easily enough.
He'll tell you what can be done with it once he gives it a look over.
I have a BV-200 to fool around with, but it's not for sale.
Jim will have whatever you need I'm sure. 

Just for kicks, I threw in a SET090 to see if it was backwards compatible with an SP731.
Although it appeared that I enabled the DBV ( I actually was able to get it to 9-1 and 6-25), when I put back in the SP731, it was NOT ENABLED because my yellow bill bezel didn't light up.
When I threw in a SET015, set the options to enable it, and threw back in the SP731, my yellow bezel came on ready to accept bills.

Do these tell me what chip I have? I went through the settings with the test switch. From what I have read the SET015 chip is the same as the BV on/off chip that I have. Not sure if that’s correct or not.

Sort of.... This tells you what chips you have for a REEL Chip and Game Chip.

The game chip (ie SP731) is basically the operating system and the Reel chip is the theme.

IF you start off with the Reel chip - it has a TYPE.
You need to use a compatible game chip that matches its TYPE.
Many games for instance would be a TYPE 0 (no special features) so they all could be used with the SP731 or SP1271 (and about 15 others). The two I listed are the most common.
The document that describes your reel chip is called a PAR sheet. It lists  the TYPE, the reel symbol order, what reel strip numbers to use, projected frequency in payouts, %% payback etc.
If you go to RICKS FAQs, (main page, bottom right) - there is the IGT game bible which lists different themes - Ie double diamond and it will list the 10 chips that are available for that theme each with a different payout. This is kind of like a mini PAR sheet.

The document that describes all the different features and settings of your game chip is called a PSR (Program Summary Report) and it will specify what SET chip is compatible with your bill validator.
In this case we know a SP731 chip uses a SET015 chip to enable/disable the validator.

Since your SET chip is not labeled - we don't know what SET chip you have.
My earlier speculation is that the one you have is NOT a SET015, and I asked the question is there anyway to tell what chip ## it is, and the answer from the community came back as NO.
IF you have an eprom reader/burner you can load the chip into it and read the chip header which will tell you what it is. IGT did a good job of documenting this in their internal code.
Obviously not everyone would have one of these around to do that.

Taking this to the next level - Mark (Stayoutofthebunker) used a SET90 with the SP731 and basically duplicated your results - that enabling with a SET90 doesn't work even though it said it did.

I know that the game chip SP1271 is compatible with your theme and is a much newer chip and works with a wider variety of set chips including the SET90
SO if you have a SP1271 around we could try swapping out your SP731 and see if the set chip you have works with that.

SO... you could reach out to one of the vendors - JIM at Midwest is a very helpful and reliable person - and get a SET015 and perhaps get a SP1271 at the same time.
This gives you a couple of permutations and combinations to try.

In the display window, it's showing that he has an SP733.
I pulled out the PSR for that chip and check this out.
I outlined it in green...basically, bills will be rejected if the game denomination is higher than the bill denom.
You think it's possible that Jeffro set his denomination for 25 dollars, instead of 25 cents?
Disregard if the validator isn't pulling in bills, right?
"When the denomination is set to zero (none), the bill acceptor is disabled"...I actually never knew this...lol

The other thing is that SS7702 chip.
At least from checking out the Master Eprom List, I verified that it's a 94% chip for his Triple Double Diamond game.

I totally agree Jay...older SP GAME PROMS.
I wish I had his machine, I'd get it runniing in a few minutes.
I still think he needs Jim's help tho...I have everything needed, but I'm too far away up at the top of New York.
Jim could test the BV, and throw the mis-labeled chip into a programmer.

I am suggesting he gets a SP1271 and a Set 15 - probably <$10 either or both will resolve the issue.

Hey everyone I got it working! Apparently the bill validator wasn’t installed or seated correctly. I took it out just to try and reinstalled and the light lit up. I also noticed it’s much easier to close the door with the handle. The bill validator must of not been in there just right. As soon as I closed the door the light lit up. I tried a dollar bill and it wouldn’t take it but then noticed it says $5 to $100 bills only? I tried a newer $5 and it didn’t work but a newer $20 bill worked just fine. Thanks everyone for their help and suggestions. I was about to give up. Now just need some of the small led bulbs that will fit in there for the bill validator lights. Thanks again!

Glad you got it going! 
A lotta times, that's all it is.
We just assumed that you had it in there correctly....an S+ doesn't tell you like the newer slot machines will.
It only took 57 Reply's to find out you had a loose validator...

Your BV might only have the older firmware...ahh....leave it be....20's are okay right?

Yes I’m gonna leave it as is. $20’s will work just fine.
I just assumed it was installed correctly but obviously it wasn’t.
The previous owner must of never installed it correctly.
