044 Boot chip socket...
« on: September 28, 2015, 06:49:26 AM »
Whoever made the decision at IGT to change the boot chip socket on the 044 MPU and game chip socket on the GK deluxe legacy board should be shot.  What a pain in the ass lining the pins up with the socket!  The old sockets at least provided a little wiggle room, but with this socket, you're guaranteed to bend a pin if it isn't lined up absolutely perfect.

There, I'm done.   :soapbox_3:

Thanks,
Jason

Those are machine pin sockets and are higher quality sockets than the standard ones.  They didn't install them for the home user that changes out game every few days.   If it really bothers you that much just get some low profile zif sockets and you wont have to deal with bent pins any more.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

You can also buy a standard socket and just put on top of the precision socket.

These are the ones I use

I leave the socket in the 044 flash board and just swap key/boot chips as needed.

I just leave my key chip on a bad 044 flash board, and I use that to key/clear my 044 boards.
When your done, just pull off the board with the key, and install your working flash board, and set it up. Just a thought for you.

I'm sure there is a lot of us that have ended up with a couple of bad flash boards.
I have to give Jim from Blueridge credit for this one. He mentioned this to me a long time ago. Works pretty slick.
