BV Will not enable after game change
« on: May 03, 2021, 01:43:09 PM »
Hello,

So I did a game change on a S+ with a 10mhz board. I went from a SP731 to a SP1060 also changed the reel chip. I then followed the instructions on how to enable the BV. 1st thing on mine was 9 0 did not show up on the credit window, it showed 9 1. I left it at that followed the remaining instructions. Replaced game chip and followed remaining instructions. BV cycles up and bezel lights up on start up but then goes out. Red LEDs are also lit on BV. I go into the self test mode and I get 5 0, 6 0, 7 0, then to 14 0, no 9 0 option. The BV did work prior to changing games and the 9 0 option was available but now is gone.

Any and all help/advice is welcome.
Thanks,
Philip

I repeated the process at least 6 times with 2 different set chips and the still nothing.

I have attached pics of the chips I installed as well as the set chips.

The DBV can support two different protocols, and this is controlled by a dipswitch.
I can't remember precisely if this is a 22/23 or 21/22 so I am hoping someone else jumps in here.
Its possible that the different game chip is on a different protocol which would explain the light up (enabled behavior) before going off line.

Perhaps change the dipswitch to a different validation protocol and see what happens.

You could also back out to the old game chip and see if still exhibits this behavior or if it works correctly.

Thanks Jay,

Can you tell me where and which DIP switch to change? Going thru the test/input/output pages I am able to get the bezel to light up but thats it so far. Did the complete BV set process again and still the same.

Thanks

The dip switch is on the side of the bill validator.
Here is the JCM manual.

Jay,

I changed the DIP switch setting (#10) but still nothing. Lights up and cycles at start up but then goes dark. Do I need to do the BV set procedure again now that I changed the DIP setting?

Thanks,
Philip

Jay,
I did the BV set procedure again after changing the DIP switch setting, still nothing. Cycles, lights up real quick and goes dark. I do get a different code/error while do the BV set. See my results below in red.

Thanks

Enabling the DBV is only necessary after doing a ram clear, or sometimes when you change the game chip. If you only changed the reel chip, this procedure is most likely not needed. You will also need to go through this procedure if you wish to change the denomination on your machine. There are numerous set chips available for the S+. Which one is used depends on what options you need to change. This FAQ will only address the bill validator and denomination. If you need to setup the progressive options, look at our FAQ on progressives. Unless you specifically purchased a specific SET chip, most dealers will sell you a SET 15 chip, which only enables Bill Validator and sets de denomination. If after a game change your bill validator does not work, then go ahead and remove the system tray where the game and reel chips reside. You will need to substitute the GAME chip with the Set chip. Then replace the system tray and power on the machine (do no put the hopper back at this point as you will only have to remove it again). If everything is ok, when the machine powers up you should see a 0 in the coins played window. Press the reset button once and you will see a 9 0 in the credit window Mine already shows a 9 1 . Press the spin reels button to change this to a 9 1. This enables your bill validator. Press the reset button again and the credit window will display a 0. Press spin reels and step through the denomination you want. They will go in this sequence 5, 25, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 10000 (.05, .25, .50, 1.00, 5.00, 10.00, and 100.00). Press the reset button when you have the right denomination. When the coins played window shows 0 and nothing else is displayed, power off your machine. Remove the set chip and replace the game chip. Put the tray back, hopper back, and close up. Power up the machine, it will display a 61 on the winner paid window, press the reset button, it will change to 61-1. Close door turn the reset key, and the 61-1 will clear. I get a 65-1 after this, open door press reset and close door again and it clears, Insert bills and spin the reels!!!

I can also get the BV to accept a bill in the output test 27_0. Accepts it and spits it back out. Bezel stays lit even after closing door going into normal play mode but wont accept bills

The PSR specifies SET019 and instructions are within.

Thank you RB.

So both my set chips are incorrect? One doesnt have a number on it and the other says SET026.

So I should change the DIP switch back to the original setting and get a SET019 chip and go from there.

Thanks alot, I was getting tired of pulling the board in and out and closing/opening doors...
Ill get ahold of the person I got the game from and see if he has the correct set chip. Below are pics of my set chips.

Thanks,

Don't have a SET019 but do have SP874 that will work with either a SET015 or 26. PM me if interested.

Ok, Thanks RB. Got the 874 chip installed, had several issues using the SET026 chip. Ranged from stuck in the 61-1 to 41 reel error. Reinstalled everything and used the other SET chip that I have (SET015?) and got everything to work. Now takes bills!!

I am happy that everything works but I dont get the idle circus music!!!

Thanks again, I am going to say that this topic is solved.

I am still interested in a SET019 if someone should have and want to get rid of.

Quick question.

When bills are inserted they go to credits and all winnings go to credits.

With zero credits I insert quarters and all winnings payout thru hopper. I would like the winnings to go to credits. I am sure there is a way and if I look enough around this site I will find, just seeing if someone could speed me up on it.

Thanks,
Philip

Update: I Changed settings from 5_1 to 5_2 and quarter winnings now go to credits.

Press the credit/cash button so that it is lit.  Then any wins will go to credits.

Rickhunter,

My cash/credit button does not light up. It works as I racked up 30 credits using the BV and pushed it and it payed out. It used to light up and function like you stated using my old SP731 chip.

Thanks

Ok, I screwed something up.

I Changed settings from 5_1 to 5_2 and quarter winnings now go to credits.

Now when I insert bills it pays out directly to the hopper! I changed it back to 5_1 and still the same. I want it to go back to bills going to credits but cant figure out how. I insert a dollar bill and 4 quarters come out of hopper. All winnings now go to hopper instead of credits. I want it back to credits but cant figure out how.

Any help please.

Thanks

Look through the following attachment.

There is a max amount of credits from Bills - probably set to 0 if you did a clear.
