This is an IGT S+ slot machine. I switched the motherboard out and now I get no sound.  everything else works fine.  I have moved the blue sound volume knob left and right but still no sound.. Any quick fixes out there.  Thanks

The sound chip at U49, is it embedded or socketed?

Can you post a picture of the chip? Not the whole board....just the chip at the U49 location.

A few questions -
You swapped the motherboard - the board the MPU(game/CPU) board plugs into, the one on the bottom of the machine?

I take it the sound was working before the motherboard swap?

Why did you need/want to swap the motherboard?

Has far as I can tell the wires that go to the speaker in the door come from the connectors above the MPU board, the metal enclosure the MPU board mounts in. I don't think the speaker connection comes from the motherboard in the bottom of the enclosure.

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Is it using the same software ?? you may have to enable reel sounds in the settings.
Alternatively the board has a (usually) blue volume control that protrudes out of the board tray - try turning it louder.

What is the procedure for enabling reel sounds in settings?  I used the same chips in both boards and did not change any settings.

Thanks, I did some reading and the blue knob on my 10mz motherboard does not enable any sound. I could not find any other adjustment to make for sound.

Turn on dipswitch #3 on MPU board if it is off. (dips 1,2 & 3 should be on)
With no credits using test button make sure that with a 0 in coins played and a 12 in winner paid that it is set to 12_1. (12_0 turns off all sound effects)

For your information B-52,

There's no "reset button" on your machine.

It's either the "Test Button" or the "Jackpot Reset" key switch.

I did some testing on my S+ and I could not get the sound setting either. Looks like we don't have the chips that allow that setting to be changed in the test menu.

It looks like the only way to change the sound setting is with dip switch on the MPU board.

Check the pictures of the sticker on my tray and the dip switches on my board. Try to duplicate that and see what happens.

My sound works and I can turn dip switch 3 off and it does the reel stop sound instead of sound.

Tony

EDIT - Going to get more specific. The dip switch #3 only changes the sound for the stop sound. My machine plays sound OK. It makes a sound when I put a coin in, sound when the reels spin, sound when the reels stop, and other sounds for wins. It looks like your MPU board is bad as you appear to have no sound at all. The above information is not going to get your sound to work. I believe you are going to need to repair your MPU board.

I am just checking out an extra board that I have and I get no sound with this board.  With the other board everything worked OK.

Normally, the options allow you to set the sound, but only when you're using a 16MHz MPU board which does NOT have the round blue volume potentiometer dial.

These particular boards are generally used for Barcrest type of machines.

I just tried 3 different machines with 3 different SP's and all three skipped over the 12 setting also.

Must be the board. :soapbox_3:
