No LED's on my S+
« on: May 16, 2021, 03:39:12 PM »
My new addition to tinker with. Is it a S-Plus? What can anyone tell me about it? The previous owner said he had it for fifteen years, worked flawlessly for quite some time but has sat un used in his game room for about ten years. It lights up, but that's it now. There is no codes lit up in the front, just what you see. I checked the battery and it is 3.56 volts. I'm not sure on how to run a reset or anything yet, any help would be great. What manual should I be looking for?
Thanks

Open the door with power on. Check to see if reels move easily by hand or are stiff. If easy check this connection. This one is turned around for visual.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

I was just reading that post with that picture on it. My reels are stiff with the power on. By the way it does not run any start up routine when turned on. Here is a picture of my plugs in the back, I do have one that looks burned. All my fuses are good. The reels do turn when the arm is pulled. but there is still no display

Have you removed any chips from the board?  Check for bent legs. Might be a bad SP chip.

I haven't removed any chips. I did take a good look at the board when I checked the battery. The previous owner never did anything to diagnose it.
I did find the plug that is pictured above, its is burned. I took out the connector out of the plug, cleaned and tweaked it a bit to make a more positive connection. Still no LED display lights. Oh and my reals are still stiff when turned on, they do not free wheel.   Yes Harvs, this is probably the one you saw.

Well, I found that the LED board was unplugged. I get one thing fixed and find another issue.
Big thanks to Jim at Midwest slots for his knowledge. I am closer to up and running

Yes, now that the LED's are working, I get a 3100 that flashes between that and one. I checked and cleaned the coin hopper brake as mentioned and frequently asked questions, and it is working fine. opening and closing the door does not remove the code. The machine was set up on free play, so the coin comparator is disabled and jumped I guess where it should be. There is no bill accepter, so the two wire to that are tied together. Went to run a door optic test and only get 13-0 and no flashing to 1 and back. I then noticed that there is no optic on the cabinet side. found the wire and the plug, then found a loose pig tail of a wire and plug to the light emitter. I'm going to pull the one out of my other s-plus and see if that changes things.
What a basket case, why do guys butcher machines up like this? I like to study up on returning it to original some day.

As ugly as it is, your only missing a few parts and it sounds like a new harness or two and you would be back to factory.

The 3100 is likely not clearing - and it should by simply opening / closing door, because it is probably not sensing the door closing.
I would start with your door optics.

If the hopper has issues then the 3100 would come back the next time it trys to pay.

I ordered a set of optics for it since the door optic wires were broke off. Yea, I knew it was ugly and going to be a project, but how am I going to learn about the machines and how they tick without diving in. I enjoy troubleshooting and learning as much as I can. Just wish I can retain it. My head is running out of room and other things re getting pushed out. Damn, when's my wife's birthday?

I retired my starter wife this past year. After 27 years you don’t get much for a trade in. Anyways your wife’s birthday is whenever you want it to be. You simply buy something shiny and say Honey I know your birthday is coming up but I just couldn’t wait to give you this.... Unless it was yesterday your golden.
