question on chips used in S+
« on: May 18, 2021, 11:47:02 AM »
Now that I've gotten my machine back up and running, I've been reading through the guides on here to see what other tweaks or mods I could do, and had a question that I still don't know.
So, from what I understand, the SP chip is the "brains" of the machine, it determines hopper payouts, credit value, etc, correct? Newer chips seem to support more options, and can work with more games. Mine is a 1271, so it looks like it is the one most people on here run.

Now on to the SS chip, mine is a 4710. I get this chip is responsible for the paytables, win percentages, reel movements, and so on, correct?
So if I'm right, other games can use the 4710? what makes my Double Black Tie different from another machine with a 4710 chip, just the glass and reel strips?

Yes that is correct. Double black tie is a clone of double red, white and blue, double blackjack, hot peppers, and others.  All take same SS reel chips. Just swap glass and strips.

Review the online game bible within Ricks FAQs - bottom right of the home page.

Your game can morph into any of the other themes - including ones with Nudge, Respin or haywire features.
You can go from 3 coins x 1 line to 5 coins x 5 lines just by changing out the chips, glass and strips.
Your not limited to the 4710 x 1271 combination.

The 1271 will commonly work with many games but certain reel chips require different game chips.

I thought that might be the case, that's actually pretty neat. For now, I'm likely going to leave it set as it is, but it's cool to know I can change it up if I desire.

As a new comer to the slot world I will give you a small piece of advice that you will see repeated elsewhere on the forum.....

Do not leave the lights off in your game room - you will soon find out you have two and maybe three machines..... before you know it....  :stirthepot:

Lol, indeed! I work as repair tech for a vending and amusement company, so I get to work on all kinds of video games, jukeboxes, ATM's, vending machines, etc. I'm already prepared for the stuff I'll no doubt bring home!
