I just picked this machine up yesterday, it was throwing a "12" Error, I went down to the electronic parts store and picked up a 3-cell AA battery holder and replaced the battery. Restarted the machine, got the 61-1, and did the reset. Everything works great now.

Bill Validator Delete (Slug/Cover)
This is my second S-Plus and I have noticed that these don't like to take bills unless they are crisp. I am thinking about just deleting the Bill Validator and putting in a slug.

When I delete the Bill Validator, I will want to also replace the "Insert Bills Below Decal"

It depends on the bill validator and how well its calibrated.
You can check with some of the vendors on the home page if they have any calibration paper.
Older units should probably be cleaned and have their belts replaced.

In general the the DBV145 was very picky, the 200 is pretty good and my WBA 12 seems to take everything.
The latter being the newest of course.

I then cracked open my validator, found about a dozen sensor eyes, and cleaned them all up. Seems to take everything except for the new 100s now. Thank you for the pointer.

*NOTE* If anyone reads this, make sure you do not clean the eyes with alcohol.

I think now I need to find a game kit, something that is a bit more fun. Of course, they are harder to find, if anyone has a lead on any game kit for my machine that I might enjoy, please let e know.

UPDATE.
I cleaned up the bill validator, and it is working fairly well. Though the bills can't be super worn.

Don't really need the Reel Glass Decal, though if I do decide to delete the bill validator in the future, it would be nice to have.

I have compiled a list of regular bulbs for my machine, others might be different, now to find LED counterparts for the LED Conversion kit.

I cleaned up the buttons, all is good.

I suggest talking to the dealers on the main page. Letting them know you are a NLG member.
Sometimes you need to piece together your game kits, strips from one person, glass from another, etc.

If you join as a contributing member we have a WTB/WTS section where you can post.

With regards to your bill validator, if your not going to use it, I would just leave it and not use it.
I am in Canada, run my machines off tokens, but still have US validators. I have the validator setup for 1c and leave a US $5 in the cash can, if I ever want to put on 500 credits quickly thats what I do.
The machine is more valuable in resale if you have it with the validator.
