IGT S with no display. 5 Line Double Diamond
« on: August 23, 2021, 01:47:34 PM »
I bought the IGT S Double Diamond 5 Line for next to nothing knowing it needed repaired. I was told it powered up but, did nothing else.

Once I got it home, I powered it up. All the lights works but, no display numbers or error. The reels are are loose (not locked in place). I replaced the dead 3.6v battery and checked all three fuses with a multi-meter. Still no life out of the machine, besides the lights. I checked the white connector from the power supply to the board (no signs of burning, melting, or browning)

Not sure where to go next. I hope those on here, that are helpful and knowledgable, can point me in the right direction.

1st thing- if the reels are 'loose' , you have a power problem. You should get power to the reels when power is turned on.. Check the forum for the cable and you can find what voltages to look for on the pins. I'm not at my computer, but the information is here, shouldn't be too hard to find. I can check later tonight and try to add more. Reels should be stiff/bumpy when powered.

On your 4th picture - you have a pic of your motherboard - this is the fixed board on the bottom of the slot with all the wires.
The removeable board is called the MPU.

On your motherboard - front right there is a large white molex connector that occasionally oxidizes / or burns. Pull that off, clean it with a white eraser or pen knife.
That is the most common cause of the symptoms you describe..

The tell tale sign is that on the center of your door there is usually a Big 25C or 5C etc and there is no light behind that.

You can even leave your hopper out and try wiggling it up and down a bit and see if your wheels stiffen and your 25c lights up.

If you have recently done a battery change you will likely pop up with a 61 error....
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

I had done some internet searches prior to coming on here begging for help. I have already checked that white connector and it showed no signs of heat or browning/burning. I even wiggled it and slid it up and down with no life or improvement with power on. i wish it was that easy.

Wow. The S slot has the molex connected straight to the transformer. Way different than the S+. Attached is a diagram for the S+ so you can check voltages

Is this the connector you want me to check? If so, I already have with no abnormal signs.

So I need to set multi-meter to volts AC and set the red lead to the pin I want to check voltage on.... where do I put the black lead? Do I put it on the common voltage ???

If S and S+ are the same voltages, the green wires on right are ground. The chart shows how to check all 3 voltages

Please forgive my ignorance....

What chart are you referring to? I see your diagram you attached but, I put the red multi-meter lead on the pin I want to check voltage and the black on a ground wire? Please understand I don't want to F this up. My extent of a multi-meter is checking DC voltage on batteries.

So you know, I have no experience with a S slot. The diagram is for S+. I hope the voltage is the same.  Maybe wait for someone else to chime in

I went back out to take pictures of the connector removed and the exposed pins and put the connector back on and worked it up and down a bit and the reels shuttered. I worked the connector again and saw the reels jump and lock in place. I closed the door and what do you know..... the display is lit with a 61 error, both candle lights are flashing and the reels and locked in place. That connector was the fault even after I had jacked with it before.

Now I just need to clear the 61 error without getting stuck in a loop.

I press and hold the white button but get no 61-1 or sound (tone). All it does when pressed is the 61 disappears and a 0 shows in the coins played and than the 61 comes back.

Is there a clear chip procedure for S version slots. I've done it for S+ and s2000.

Yes there is a clear procedure.  I have the same board and machine, different theme S+ chips for triple dollars. Mine is S+ and I believe yours is too. If you are not getting the 61 to change with the white test button other things could be the problem.

Maybe the machine thinks the door is closed, the door sensor may be bad? Or the MPU board circuit.

Plenty of other things people have found to fix this error. May take a bit, read a bunch of the posts about 61 error for things to check. It will take some troubleshooting to get it going if pushing the button does not do it.

I would not clear it yet, last resort things.

PM me if you like.

I had the 61 error when I changed games. I had to repeat the process/procedures a few times to get it to the 61_1.

So, yesterday I pulled the MPU board to switch off the sound (DIP3). Everything was working fine prior to this. When I turned machine back on I had a 21 error. Read it was a coin optic/door optic issue. I checked the door optic with my camera phone and seen the pulse. I pulled the coin mechanism and blew it out with air. Still had 21 error. I then pulled the MPU board again, powered on machine without the board in place for a couple of seconds. Turned it off, replaced the board and shazam, it works again like normal.

I guess my point is, these machines and the contacts can be picky at times. Back trace some of the components/wires that you possibly touched or moved, it may solve your problem.

Here is a link to a resent post where the problem was a cash can switch. The switches are in series with the door switch...   It does say 61-1 error though.

http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=32016.msg169731#msg169731

Also just something to try - if the door switches may be a problem push the test button a few times and see if it steps through some other display readouts. When I open my door and just press the test button I hear the handle release and the (I think) accounting menu stuff gets displayed.
