IGT S+ Slot Machine Making Buzzing and Clicking Noise
« on: September 02, 2021, 07:38:37 PM »
I recently purchased two slot machines a few months ago from a neighbor who moved away. One of them has been working fine but only recently it has started making a vibrating noise or a clicking sound just below or behind where you put the token in. I located what looks like a coil and if I touch it I can feel it vibrating or clicking. Also if I tap on it the issue will stop but then start again. I would be so grateful if anyone can offer any advice as to what they think could be causing the problem. I recorded a video that shows it happening and put it on Youtube. Here is the link. Thanks again, :thank_you:

Awesome video!  :applause:
Behind the coin comparitor is something we call a "rake"....it's clicking like crazy....haha
It works by a magnet with two gray wires going to the top of comparitor case enclosure.
What happens is the two pins that make up the power connection between the magnet and the circuit board get oxidized....or a circuit board component starts going outta specifications.

Anyways, pull off the two gray wired connector from the comparitor....try to clean the male pins with something that cleans batteries like on your car.

You CAN make a paste out of one tablespoon of baking soda into one cup of water.
Apply it with an old toothbrush to the pins and watch the battery oxidization/pin corrosion bubble right off of the pins!
Then simply wipe the pins with a water wet Kleenex tissue.

Most guys buy this stuff in a can called "De-Oxit" and simply spray onto male/female pins in machines.
Has a lot of alcohol and dries on it's own fairly quickly.
Sometimes you can find metal circuitry de-oxidize stuff in spray cans at auto parts stores too.
Auto guys buy it to clean battery terminals.

Another thing you can try is to simply remove the connector and put it back on...back and forth, back and forth to somewhat clean part of the pins for better electrical contact.
Sometimes you get lucky with this method and scrape off enough gunk to get a better connection.

or

Simply pull off the Coin Comparitor from the four plastic clips that grab the pins on the CC.
Turn it around and you'll see how the rake is attached.
Remove the "rake" simply by taking off two screws that hold it....or stick folder pape in there to keep the rake from going thru the entry slot/hole.
Only problem is now your machine will accept just about anything into the hopper bowl...pennies, nickels, dimes, whatever because the purpose of the rake is to redirect coins into the proper chute....without it, everything just gets deposited into the hopper bowl and causes jams.

I could be wrong and it could be the chute divertor slot as well that makes the buzzing noise.
Looks like a little black plastic "gate".
They can burn out as well.

That's a classic example of the cap bad. remove the four screws that hold the cover in place, you will see a capacitor located top left, 220 microfarads at 35 vdc,  replave this cap and it will more then likely fix that problem.
