SIGMA Reel Games / Re: Maxim max7219cng ic chip

They were out when I got the machine and I'm using a different CPU board . But now the machine is acting funny again it starts lighting up reals moving all different directions hopper coming on and off the hard meters clicking and the vfd screen all these symbols and letters are going accrossed the screen and I can't reset it it no matter what I did . I'm trying to figure out if one of my chips went bad  . I messaged Allen  at k lar to see if he has these led meters I need and I'm hoping he does . I would by them even if they were untested . I just won't order the parts off eBay ever again .

Thanks @Stayouttadabunker for the quick and informative reply! I'll try my best to respond in kind  :nerd:!

Oh, and thanks for calling me a sucker LOL! Perhaps it is called learning the hard way... I can try to send you a private message (if that is possible) with the info about the place I purchased from; I just don't want to get sued for slander if I post it publicly! In case it makes the cost seem like less of a ripoff, here is the breakdown if you're curious:
  • Slot Machine: $995.00
  • Footrest: $269.95
  • Addition of Token Handling:  $195.00
  • 2x Packs of Ticket Printer Paper:  $13.95
  • 500 Tokens: $99.75
  • Shipping: $477.90
  • TOTAL: $2,051.55

Hey, I'd rather be over the top with details than to have to make people work hard to get that info out of me piecemeal.

I wonder if perhaps I don't actually have a VS011GX0 version chip, since my VFD does in fact display two lines. I'll get a picture of the MPU and the chips in particular; the end of the version chip number was a bit rubbed off, so I definitely could have misread it.

I'll also attach a picture of the ticket printer and TITO board. The TITO is functioning, as I can print a ticket and insert it into the bill acceptor to get the credits back.

The credit display board actually works fine, it is just the plastic shroud on the back that broke off. I doubt I can get that separately though. It's not a big deal since I can make a replacement for it and it doesn't affect the operation. Plus, it's on the inside, so at least people on the outside won't notice it.

That is an interesting video about beefing up the ground traces to fix the audio issue. I saw the resistor fix from this post that was linked to in the Look Here First page, but I agree that a resistor is a definite hack. I'll look up that Lookes member and see what is involved with getting it fixed. Hopefully it won't break the bank due to shipping! But it sounds like it would be worth it. I do have a soldering iron and can probably do as well as the guy in the video, but I don't trust myself and risk damaging anything.

My assumption is that the coin comparator is new since I paid to have it installed, but I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the three connectors and that didn't make a difference. Unfortunately I have not figured out how to take the mechanism out, although I had pretty much the rest of the door apart when trying to clean and understand how things go together. Once I find my can of air that I misplaced, I will give a few bursts between the optics and general area.

As for the sound settings go, I searched for "S2000 Sound Settings" but didn't see much that was useful; perhaps I'm more blind than I think. I did manage to find the sound options menu, so I went through all available entries and listed out what the current values are in case that yields something silly that I need to change.
  • ...
  • 3.2 Sound Options
    • 3.2.1 Volume Control
      • 3.2.1.1 Game Volume -> Volume Level 2
      • 3.2.1.2 Money Volume -> Volume Level 4
    • 3.2.2 Reel Spin Sound -> Reel Spin Sound On
    • 3.2.3 Reel Stop Sound -> Stop Sound: Solenoid
    • 3.2.4 Mechanical Bell -> Mechanical Bell Off
    • 3.2.5 Rollup Sounds -> Rollup Melody
    • 3.2.6 Multimedia
      • 3.2.6.1 Audio Mode -> Audio Mode STEREO
      • 3.2.6.2 Attract Time -> Attract Timer (min) = : 01
      • 3.2.6.3 Attract Volume -> Multi Media Attract Volume Level 2
  • ...

Ha! Inheritance! You're funny, perhaps that will include the slot machine itself. Otherwise you may end up in the red if you know what I mean. However, I may just take you up on that offer since my wife would like it a lot.

Ah, that would be great if I can get everything I need from one place. That Spin Inc. site was promising and I almost pulled the trigger, but then the belly door cables went out of stock and they said they weren't sure if they getting any more. Bad timing I suppose.

Thanks for the welcome! Perhaps one day I'll know enough about this stuff to pay it forward. At the moment though, I'm as green as can be.

P.S.: I have attached five pictures to this post and will attach another five to another due to the limit.

The problem might be with the cash box. Make sure its fully seated. Swap the cash box if you have another machine.
