Hello all. I've had this Fortune 1 for about 4 years. It was idle one night when it suddenly started going crazy. As I've read a lot on many archived posts the screen gets scrambled, the counter and hopper ran away. I replaced thr H6 optocoupler and no change. I found 2 of the smaller caps to be open. I went ahead and replaced all 3. The larger caps tested fine. Upon boot, the game came back but with blocks vs characters. So i re-seated the graphics eproms and the game was back to normal.

Suddenly after a few hours it started going crazy again. I pulled the new caps which tested fine. I went ahead and replaced the 5 large caps. Still no change. I replaced the 3 voltage regulators one by one booting it each time. Still no change except after I replaced the -5V regulator next to the rectifier and got a blue screen. Swapped it back to the old regulator and it went crazy again until suddenly the game came back. It played fine for 2 days with the exception of the screen going blank to blue and sometimes black with the interface board chirping each time the screen went blue or black. But it still played. Then all of a sudden it went back to going crazy.

My hook test leads are somewhere in storage so I can't check the voltages while the mpu is plugged in. I hate the fact that electronics hobbyist stores are now a dime a dozen ever since Fry's and Radio Shack no longer exist. I'm in Los Angeles county, and all we have left is All Electronics which is great but 50 miles away from me. So hopping in the car to quickly grab something is no longer.

Until I get my test clips I'm currently at idle. Any ideas?

A blue screen is usually caused by a bad or weak 5101 RAM chip.
A reset fix is posted at the top of this topic page.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.
