I use a long regular screwdriver and put it between the tray and board next to the stud, then turn the screwdriver to lift the board off the post.  Gently lifting and wiggling the board helps too.

Thanks again for the help.

My 2-cents; Kirk said to Key-40 it. You need a Key-40 chip to perform this action. Do you have one? You are gonna need one. Also need a 2341 reset key, should have come with the machine.

What you do is replace the base chip with the Key-40. Put the board in the machine and turn it on. The screen displays a menu and you need to use the 2341 key and push the test button on the board to navigate thru the menu and clear the corrupt RAM. Then you can select what games to be displayed, etc. Attached is a detailed procedure one of our members posted some time back. It's for the I-games but also works on GameKings.

Thanks for the information. I have the reset key but do not have a key-40 chip.
Any suggestions where I can purchase a key-40 chip? I have seen them on e-bay but would prefer to purchase from the group.

Update:
I replaced the onboard battery with a temporary (2) AA battery pack.
The voltage now reads 3.136 but no change, I still have the messed up confetti screen.

Do i need to key-40 it to get the screen back or is it a processor board/power supply/ monitor issue.

Thanks again for the help.

it needs to be keyed/cleared.
This is a normal indication for scrambled RAM

You can get a key and try it, you'll want one anyhow to set some of the game/machine options.  You won't be able to key it though if the MPU will not boot. Any RAM contents cleared when the back-up battery was removed.  Personally I would start looking for a power supply.

I'm pretty familiar with them, especially the Bartops...
I see this a lot and it's not the power supply.....
A bad supply will indeed cause trouble too, error messages like wrong line freq, meter disconnected, coin in jam...etc...etc...
But I would key-40 it to clear the RAM and the EEPROM on the backplane first.

We'll see.  I don't have any bartop machines, but I've seen a few bad power supplies cause this in older 13" and 19" cabinets with the I/O board tray.  That and improperly installed or faulty game software.  His power supply voltages are almost 10% low.  That in my experience is low enough for the MPU not to boot and results in a gray pixelated screen.  The OP has nothing to lose by trying to clear it first, just like he didn't by replacing the battery first, because both are needed anyhow.

Update and happy news:
I removed the base chip and replaced it with a Key-40.
The system still would not boot. It was dead with a red screen.

I also ordered a S2000/I-game power supply at the same time so I replaced the power supply.
The game booted fine and I was able to key-40 it and setup the games and denomination.

So far it is playing great but I will need to get the newer power supply to fit so I can install the coin hopper.

One question: Can i purchase a 3902 boardset with a game already installed like LobsterMania and just insert it into the MPU and be able to play Lobstermania on a 13" Gameking?

Thanks everyone for your help!!

Congratulations!  Glad you were able to get your machine working again  :applause: .    You'll have to get creative with the mounting for the replacement power supply, but it can be done.

Yes you can get a 3902 board with a game installed and swap game boards in and out.  The easiest way is to get a new eeprom for the backplane as well.  Then you swap the board with the EEPROM and all your settings/credits, etc will remain intact.  There's a thread on it here:

http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=251.0

One thing though swapping between 3802 & 3902 boards will most likely require you to also make horizontal and vertical screen adjustments as the resolution and/or refresh frequency is different between the two.  If you want to swap games like that you're really better off doing it with a couple of 3902 boards and forget about the 3802, then you won't have to mess with the screen.

Thanks for reporting back with the resolution to your problem.

I could have not got it working without everyone's help here.
Thanks for the thread on the eeprom backplane. I have never attempted surface mount desoldering.

Any good recommendations of a vendor for 3902 boards?
