Key Chip Needed? What Board Do I Have?
« on: May 26, 2015, 10:46:41 AM »
Hey Guys I know there have been several answers on what key chip to use with what boards,,, but I'm new to IGT altogether and I don't even know what board I have.

How do you tell which one is which? How can you tell which ones are the enhanced version?

I looked at the number on the chips in relation to the files posted on here to determine what software I have but I couldn't find it on the list???

Any help would be awesome!

Thanks guys!

Bud

Look at the two white labels just above your GME chips, the one labeled P/N is your part number (you only need to look at the last 4 digits). I would use key 40.

I thought 28 was for 044 only?  Looks to me like a 3902 board? I use key22 for that.

It's a 3902 board, use key 22.  If you had an 044 board running a legacy adapter, then you would use key 40.  If you had an 044 flashboard, you use key 28.

It looks like a 3902 MPU to me. I have successfully used keys 17, 22, and 40. Key 17 is keychip only with no clear options, no menu pops up and the screen just turns purple to tell you it's been accepted. Key 22 gives you RAM clear options and a keychip function too in a visual menu. Key 40 is the newer version of key 22 but functions the same for 3902 boards in my experience.

I've had issues using key40 on my 3902 board, I loose the touchscreen connectivity for some reason.

I use a KEY-40 to do a lobotomy on it...resets EVERYTHING, especially meters...
KEY-40 will(can) force it to load the default games and turn the hopper ON

KEY-17 for when I need to get in and modify just a few things (like max bets, add a game)

If I had to have ONE chip for 3802/3902 it would be the KEY-40 as you can use it like a 17 too.

I know if you are using really old software you have to do a clear in order to get into keychip menu, but with newer software that uses simm cards you can just go into key chip without having to clear.

UH.....no.....
I can use a KEY-17 with some old stuff like M0000526 base chip and not have to clear it completely.
Here is the reasoning....
In a casino or a route operation, if you swap out the board you need to clear ALL book keeping, otherwise your accounting dept will want to hang you by your balls as it REALLY screws them up.So if I need to "Massage" a few settings I use the KEY-17 so as to NOT reset book keeping and save me a whole lot of time.
If I bring a machine out of storage or set it back up, it gets the KEY-40 treatment.
Of course this does not apply to the 044 series of boards....

As a home user (like most of us) I really don't pay much attention to the accounting. Should have said when using key 40 some times you have to clear in order to access key chip menu but usually you can just select apply key chip and not have to clear. I always thought all simm based software could be keyed without clearing by just selecting apply key chip and reboot without clearing anything.

The Key 17 is a keychip only.
The Key 22 is a non WAP keychip AND memory clear.
The Key 40 replaces the KEY 22. Believe the Key 40 works on both the 3902 board and the 044 boards without "enhanched memory themes".

The Key 28 is a non WAP keychip and memory clear that is used on the 044 board with games that have "enhanched memory themes."
