BB2e 43 inch NEC Monitor Mod
« on: April 06, 2024, 08:15:15 AM »
I'm looking at a larger monitor to replace my NEC 323-2 for my tall screen games.

All of the 43" NEC monitors that I've looked at do not have a DVI input like the NEC 323-2, all they have is VGA and HDMI.

Has anyone used these DVI/HDMI adapters, will they work in this application?

Only thing I can tell ya is that worked for my AVP to put a tall top monitor in when the original integrated monitor was only DVI.  :)

DVI on the video out from the box to the HDMI port on the tall display worked fine for me, and I just used a plain old "dumb" 42" HDTV that was light, and cheap!
But as a guess, I suspect it would work as long as the display supports the resolution that's being output as it should still detect the EDID from the display with the adapter.

I assume that a 1920 x 1080 max res monitor will work good with a BB2e, no need to purchase an expensive 4K monitor.

That’s what I did on my AVP.   😁

Part list including the 42” HDTV no “smart” features!  Like $150.  Worked perfectly and used a basic monitor arm to mount it.  TV is only 11lbs so nothing heavy to deal with.

I found a deal on an NEC C431 43" (thin) monitor. It measures 38 x 22 x 1.8 inch, and about 7 pounds heavier than the NEC 323-2 that several people (including me) have used for a tall screen monitor. I'm going to attempt to adapt some standard BB2 monitor mounts to this new monitor. Then remove the top screen and trim/bezel, and hopefully mount the larger screen on the existing cabinet mounts. The new monitor will completely cover the hole created by removing the standard top monitor and should look much better than the Frankenstein-ish 32" mounted on a computer monitor arm.

Has anyone tried something similar to this before?
