V20 NVRAM Mount Failure Low Battery
« on: September 04, 2018, 06:32:15 PM »
Bally's v20 was working great yesterday and won't boot today. Final start-up screen says, "Fatal Fault; NVRAM mount failure low battery. I assume this is an easy fix, but have never changed any batteries on a Bally before. I'm hoping someone here can talk me through it. If it matters (and before you ask), I don't know which brain box I have. I think it's a 512 (bought from Barry awhile ago), but maybe a 1Gig. How can I tell them apart? Thanks in advance for the help!

The 512MB box does not have Memory simms on it and the battery is a cr2032 battery mounted on a horizonally mounted battery holder.  The 1GB box that is most common has a  2477N rather thick button cell battery mounted vertically on the board and has memory simms mounted vertically just behind the power supply.

Located a CR2477 behind the power. So, a 1 gig. Is that the battery I ought to swap out?

You should also find a Battery on the Backplane Board, may as well replace that too.

Yes, that's the battery.  A word,  Bally has a crappy design on these boxes and batteries drain quicker than other manufacturer's slots.  I've probably had to replace those 3 times for every 1 time I do for WMS or IGT.

Thanks guys, that seemed to do the trick! I'm now past the NVRAM Mount Failure error message. I ran a system clear, reinstalled the game, clicked Setup, and now have a new challenge. My only options under Setup are Touch Screen Setup and Sound Setup. Any idea where my other Setup options went or how I can get back to them?

Pending Status says:
Denom Not Set
Paytable Not Set
Devices Not Set

But I don't know how to set those without the Machine Setup option. Help!  :arrowthruhead:

Hold up ... Found this old nugget from Rick:

"With the game running in the normal slot play, open the bottom door.  You should get the open door M message.  Then press the white button."

Gonna try this setup once more. Stay tuned.
