Summit conversion problem
« on: October 24, 2018, 09:57:30 PM »
I have a Summit conversion slot machine that when I turn it on it works as it should for about 10 to 15 pulls then the insert coin and coin accepted light will just shut off depending on where you are in that round. Either no coins inserted yet or at least one coin inserted. If i have pulled the handle and then they go out the reels just spin and spin. It's like it looses power or something after so long. Then if I turn the machine off and back on then I get a 0 In The window (not flashing) see pic. I can turn it off for 5 or 10 minutes sometimes longer and turn it back on and still have the 0. I do have the battery removed. If i let it set for a long time It seems like time differs then turn it back on it will come back on as it should. Then i can play say 10 coins and the same thing happens. Anyone know what could cause this?

Sound like a bad solder joint connection on one of your circuit boards. Things like voltage regulators and resistors can get hot, and over a period of heat cycles the solder can crack. As it heats up this solder joint expands and causes the game not to work. Check your power supply first, then the other boards.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

Checked the solder on power supply and changed caps on it. Checked interface and slot control board also. They all looked good. Soldered a few places since I was at it. It still does the same thing. Do you know how the jumper is suppose to be on the slot control board? Any other ideas? Thanks

Remove the reel assembly and clean the male Beau plug pins with a wire brush. The female pins in the sockets on the back wall should be cleaned as well. I bought a small file from auto parts that is used to file the points contacts on old cars. I ground down the width of the file and used it to clean the  female  connectors in the plugs. Spray electrical   contact cleaner on all the connectors.   The tin coating oxidizes and cause issues. Take the boards out of the reel assembly and clean the edge connections with a pencil eraser and spray the edges with the cleaner and spray inside the sockets where the boards plug in. Any other molex connectios in the in the entire machine wiring should be separated and inspected for hot spots, an indication of a loose connector and then spray with electrical cleaner and reconnected.

The problem is definitely the power supply. I borrowed one from someone and the machine works good with his power supply. I checked the solder and replaced the capacitors. Anything else that could be wrong with the power supply that could be repaired? Is it time to buy a power supply? Thanks

Check with Alan at K-lar. I’m not sure if her works on the Summits. You can find there as on the home page.

The problem is definitely the power supply.
I have a few power supplies and board shelves if you're looking for those. Let me know.
John

It does not load rejected messages when you delete others so do I still need to email you or do you want to send a new message? Thanks
