Custom Mills 1960's era Reel Strips - Custom. Any suppliers?
« on: February 19, 2019, 11:16:06 AM »
Hi All,

NEwbe here.    Tried a search with little relevant finds.   I have more info, but I'll keep the first post short.       Have 1965 Mills "century" Cabinet machine with a 1963 mills "777" high top style mechanism.   I have most of this working but it really needs new reel strips.   Current strips have no numbers/info/ID on strips.    Disks have no id/ stampings that I can find....    I do have the Reel codes etc.  but I cannot find any known strips that fit the reel codes.

IS there a reasonably priced source/supplier for a custom replacement ????   I want it to look real good/nice but not trying to make a perfect match to the original ....

Thanks All !

Hello,

I am basically in the same boat. I have a Mills Diamond front and Jennings Chinese front machine that require strips. Below are two suppliers that I am aware of. Hopefully, someone can suggest some others. As the ones listed below do not currently stock the ones I need. The last one can make them for extra $$. Which will be my last resort.

This site is not the best to navigate and you will have to double check your strips with the ones in their catalog.
 http://www.mrslot1.com/

This one is easier to navigate and they can make custom strips for you.
 https://www.slotmachinereelstrips.net/

Both of these suppliers sell on eBay. So, you may check there for your strips too.

Hi,

Thanks Much for the reply ....

MR Slot has taken a few weeks off and I'm waiting for him to return and reply.    For The Second Source listed,  I left a contact request in their site a least a week ago and still have no reply .....

From What I'm seeing, the strips are going for around ~$30/$40.    Customs I assume will be more.   If I can't find a source or if It's over $80 I'll probably spend the time on the computer and lay out the strips myself and send it to a printer that can do 26"  prints ...

Regardless, I will advise here what the outcome was so others can have the info ...

Best Regards
SteveC

If its a problem with reel strip codes,  PM me with your email address and I will send you PDF files of old Mills, Jennings and Pace reel strip catalogs.
They contain  numerous sets of reel strips and hopefully one of them will be what you are looking for.  From them you can find reel strip codes.

HI  SB,

The O O O is Three oranges, one on each reel.   It is attached to a 5 coin slide.   When 3 oranges are hit the slides pays the first two payout slides ( 2+ 3 coins) + the 5 coins for the 3rd slide (3 oranges ) payout.     Is this what  u wanted???

No.  when you said "YES BAR" pays 10, did you mean O O Bar pays 10, or were you speaking of a Bar symbol with the word Yes imprinted over it paying 10?  This is what confused me.  It would make a difference as to reel strips and disk punch holes.

Hi SpeedBump,      OK I see my error ..... That payout line should be ;;;        OO Bar  (orange, Orange, Bar).    Looks like my spell checker change that line ....

Thanks

If you have Dan Meade's book cataloging all the different real strips then what I have won't help you.  If your strips are not in the book and your disks don't have code numbers punched in them, then your reels and disks were probably custom made/punched for the casino your machine was placed in.
As a side note, your strip combinations looked a little odd to me so I got out the calculator and did some work.  They had to he custom made and your slot had to have been in an establishment that was cheating its customers.  Based on the combination on your strips, you machine was set to pay back around 53.45% over 8,000 pulls of the handle.  This assumes they were using the standard pay table for winning combinations.  Most casino machines paid 70 to 90%. Unless those Lemons were mystery pays, whoever was running this machine was a tight bastard who was ripping his customers off.

I have crap luck trying to post stuff that does not get messed up ....I have 2 machines ready for reel strips but I just can't find them online .... I have Emailed a number of suppliers from EBay and other online sites. I have had a number of responses from kind persons sending supplier info - but have yet to be able to connect with the suppliers (no response to Emails, etc.)
Looking for the two following items:
Mills vest pocket reel strips - with adhesive backing. Not black background. Mills 1962 era reel strips - Custom . One or two sets of same strips. (do not believe these are standard strips - need to be special made ...)
Thanks All

Go here http://www.casinovendors.com/search.aspx and scroll down towards the bottom.

You should see four vendors who manufacture custom made reel strips.  Maybe they can help.

Considering the others didn't respond, That's what you will have to pay if you want to make the machines work.
It looks like you've got three choices:
Pay nothing and let the machines take up space and collect dust for years.
Sell the machines "as is" and take a loss.
Pay the price and keep the machines or sell them.
I've known guys who've taken the first choice on so many occasions that over the years, they've accumulated an entire barn full of useless, non-working junk they casn't bear to part with because they have so much money tied up in it and they hope that "someday" they will find what they need to complete work on each item.  When they die, their next of kin has to pay a junk collector to clean the place out.  Don't be one of those guys.
