Have you swapped the I/O board from the 'bad' machine to the known good machine?  See if the problem follows there.

This is a new one to me...  Never seen that kind of behavior before where it likes one game and doesn't like another (with known good chips).  Just a thought, and this doesn't solve the mystery, but if you have more than one machine, why don't you put Reel 'em in on a different machine and use this machine to run High Speed or whatever?

I would assume this is not the case since you have swapped 2 games from different machines with them both working, but this is not a jurisdiction setting issue?

Reel em in is the only roundtop 3 reel game I actually have. The other are dotmation games. I can put the reel em in cpu in a dotmation game & it works. All my dotmation glasses are flat top. cant convert nor do I want to, I wanna reel em in!

Ah, okay.  That makes sense.  I didn't realize it was a round top and your only one.  Still curious what jurisdiction your jumpers are set at and do you have any other variations of the REI software?  I am curious to see what that machine would do with a different version in it.

I can't blame you for wanting to keep Reel Em In going in that slot.  Its the only non-dot I am still trying to find a kit for.  REI along with High Speed and Top Cat (have both) are the best 3 non-dot WMS 40x games IMO

And again, I would rather see whatever the issue is get fixed, but just food for thought as a possible last resort...

I know that the 9" flat tops and the 16" tall tops are all interchangeable.  I would assume that the round tops are too (meaning, the whole top unscrews from the rest of the slot).  You should be able to swap your round top and a flat top between 2 machines. That way you could run Reel Em In on a different base machine with your round top, and then one of your DOTs on the old REI base with the swapped flat top.

Of course, this only works cosmetically if the 2 machines you are swapping tops on have the same color outer shell.  I currently have black,  2 different greys, and 2 different tans out of the 8 WMS 40x slots that I own, and used to have a red one as well.  So they come in all different colors making top swapping a pain if the 2 don't match.

Still would love to figure out what is going on, but hopefully there is a workaround like this if you cant...

I have two versions of Reel Em In software... both of them are NJ jurisdiction and one is 90% while the other is 92%.  Here is the info on what I have:

CPU:
reel_u2.010    chksum=F011
reel90u3.010   chksum=AE86  90% return
reel92u3.010   chksum=AF86  92% return

Sound (does not use U18):
reel_u17.040   chksum=8600
reel_u30.040   chksum=1E00
reel_u31.040   chksum=EF00

So the XU02 chip is the NJ version.  If yours is also NJ, then you will have the same Checksum.  If yours is different, then maybe mine will work in your machine with a changed jumper setting.  Then of course, the 2 different XU03 files are the different winning percentages.  Curious what you have in yours.  The XU17, 30, and 31 eproms should all match as those are just the sound.

If your XU02 and XU03 software is different, I am more than happy to burn a few eproms for you to try and see if that works.
